'G.I. Joe 3' Set to Focus on Dwayne Johnson, Lands 'Shooter' Writer
Paramount Pictures already announced that a slew of sequels would arrive in 2016, and one of them was G.I. Joe 3, the next installment of one the studio's toy-based franchises. And now the film has a writer on board as Variety reports Shooter and Lethal Weapon 4 scribe Jonathan Lemkin has been hired to tackle the script. There's no details on the story, but the sequel is expected to focus on Roadblock, the character played by Dwayne Johnson who was added to G.I. Joe: Retaliation and made the follow-up so much better than the first. We just wish there was some way for Channing Tatum to come back from the dead.
Adrianne Palicki is expected to come back along with most of the other cast from the sequel, but it doesn't sound like any official deals are in place just yet. Production won't even begin until the second quarter of 2015. Here's hoping Lemkin can keep the momentum going that came from the fun second film, and also deliver an adventure that isn't idiotic and tired like Transformers: Age of Extinction. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the Hasbro franchise as well, and he worked with Lemkin on The Devil's Advocate and Lethal Weapon 4, so here's hoping their history helps them crank out something good. But the film still needs a director, and it doesn't look like Jon M. Chu will return, so who should be at the helm?
