Gerard Butler Taking Patrick Swayze's Role in Remake of 'Point Break'

After Alcon Entertainment announced a remake of the revered 1991 action flick Point Break from director Kathryn Bigelow in 2011, it took them two years to figure out that Ericson Core, the director of photography from The Fast and the Furious (the first film from 2001) and Daredevil and director of the sports drama Invincible, would be at the helm. Now the cast is coming together as THR has learned that 300 and Law Abiding Citizen star Gerard Butler will take the role of Bodhi, originated by Patrick Swayze, an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves. But he's also leading a team of criminals who have been living free while robbing banks.
It sounds like the remake isn't really changing things too much from the original, and since Butler got plenty of surfing time in for his little seen melodrama Chasing Mavericks, he should have no problem with the surfing side of things. As for the role of Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent played by Keanu Reeves in the original, the role has yet to be cast. So far this seems like a hollow attempt to cash in on a recognizable title and lazily adapt it for a generation who may not be interested in the somewhat dated original. At this point, you'd be better served watching Hot Fuzz to get a better vibe of that film. Thoughts?
