Monsters: Dark Continent

In an attempt to cash in on the buzz surrounding the release of Godzilla this weekend, the sequel to director Gareth Edwards indie sci-fi flick Monsters has just unveiled a trailer showing off more of the expanded world. Monsters: Dark Continent focuses on another Infected Zone in the Middle East, and this time it looks like we're spending most of our time with a military unit in the area. What I really like is the grounded approach to how society is living as there are monsters all around the world. There's a shot of a dogfight facing what appears to be a small monster, and this might not be too bad of a sequel. Watch now!

Here's the trailer for Tom Green's Monsters: Dark Continent from IGN:

Monsters: Dark Continent is the sequel to Gareth Edwards' Monsters. Tom Green ("Misfits") makes his feature directorial debut with a script from Jay Basu. Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie ("Game Of Thrones") star in the film which moves the action to  another Infected Zone, a U.S. military-dominated Middle East, where a soldier is looking for his lost comrade. Vertigo Films has slated the sequel for release in the United Kingdom in September of 2014, but there's no indication of when it might make its way to the United States. Stay tuned for anymore updates.

James Franco must be outraged about this sequel....

huh, you mean Spring Breakers or the fact that a director who made the 1st movie isn't making the 2nd.... Alien vs Aliens ... all i gotta say
  • Nash
It was cool until they showed the monsters. The good thing about the original was the buildup of tension and suspense by not showing the monsters...
    • Lagoya
Then the crushing disappointment at the end when you see how stupid they look
      • shane willett
they looked like deep sea creatures... hows that stupid.. you must think the monster from Super 8 was amazing... hahahaha
        • Lagoya
Yes, deep sea creatures... BUT THEY WERE ON LAND! tentacles can't support that weight. They looked like cheap octopus puppets controlled by an amateur puppeteer. And no I wasn't impressed by the Super 8 alien either.
          • shane willett
Super 8 monster was a test, cuz it was bad, it looked like the 1st alien you see in men in black movie or something... I agree the monsters weren't original they looked like a octopus meets jellyfish.. so i can see when an animator creates something, it shows what they are referencing.. But they also looked a lot Chtuthlulu so that was cool ??? sorry you didn;t care for it
          • Lagoya
            It's Cthulhu not Chtuthlulu.
          • shane willett
my fingers are sore, ive been editing video all day... click click, cut and paste, 1000 itimes later
          • Lagoya
ok I forgive you then :)
      • Mr Chatterbox
Um they look a lot better than the monsters in the first film.
    • shane willett
100% right you are... you only see the destruction the monsters left behind, it's not until the last 10 minutes you see them at the gas station and your like ' Holy Fuck, run"
      • Lagoya
not really, at the end you realise that you just wasted an hour and a half of your life just to catch a glimpse of some land octopus.
        • shane willett
I see your on the Landshark committee, I represent the cephalopod committee and we try, we try....

The bad thing about the first one was that it was called "Monsters" but hardly had any monsters in it.
  • Dan Hibiki
Is this gonna be a standup fight or another bughunt?
    • shane willett
      wannabe Starship Troopers
  • Was that real? The voiceover sounds like a Ludacris album intro.
  • Lagoya
This will be terrible just like the first one.
    • shane willett
The first one was good, in the fact that he wrote, directed and edited it all himself.. what have you done with your life.. nothing close to his...
      • ErrorSapiens
Come on man.. just because he didnt like the film you have to get personal and de-evaluate a guy you dont know? Bad habit.
        • Brian Sleider
Welcome to the internet, where if your opinions differ, you are a stupid piece of shit who should never be allowed to speak.
          • shane willett
Well lets critique your work... it's like if you have nothing good to say, than shut the fuck up!
          • Brian Sleider
So yeh you are either an asshole, stupid, or a troll.
          • shane willett
how about a stupid ass troll?, they do exist, rare but are amongst the living,,,
          • Brian Sleider
You are welcome to self identify. I will just ignore you like I do that guy who always has a Tom Hardy pic for is avatar.
          • shane willett
Im just messing with you,, i could care a less what you like or don't ... have a good one. Just bored having a go with you.. take care buddy.. just all in internet fun! movies suck, some rule... bam!
          • shane willett
no im just having a go, your entitled to your opinion, it's just the last 5 minutes of work... bored I trolled a lil'
        • shane willett
No, it's sad when people act like they know cause they saw a bunch of movies or went to art school. I have worked on actual sets, I am currently working on a screenplay, it's not easy, but it is easy to talk shit about a movie.. it's funny how people who have little to no experience or the most experienced ...
        • shane willett
I de-evaluate life? Haven't you watched the Cosmos?
      • Brian Sleider
And that means what? That no one who hasn't made a movie can critique a movie? Your horse, its too high, get off it. The first one was OK. It is ok to dislike it.
        • shane willett
          I hate equestrians... they bite
  • shane willett
the fucking VO is fucking stupid.... WTF ?
    • Lagoya
Something we both agree on lol
  • shane willett
Horrible.... how could Gareth Edwards allow this to happen... pure shit, a rap VO about sand bugs... this feels like its going to be a modern day Star Ship Troopers.... as soon as something original happens, money hungry producers who know nothing fuck up a good thing ...
    • Benjamin Hunter
Can't believe Edwards let this happen Trailer's just a vehicle for some dude's rappin' Over clips of a copy of Starship Troopers Ripe for milkin' by them fat-cat producers
      • shane willett
so you quoted me,,, your amazing!
  • Brian Sleider
Well that was a shitty trailer, but I am excited to see this. Was hoping for a Sequel hope they gives us more info on the monsters, and more monster action.
  • Rock n Rollllll
Whoa, Sandworms! I hate em myself!
    That VO is terrible.
  • Nielsen700
I really liked the first one. Not sure about this one though. And that VO, geez.
  • dan
movie looks good. the ghetto narration is AWFUL.
  • Jmeston
the VO is fucking HILARIOUS. MONSTERS was magical because Edwards transcended the shoddy vfx, acting and plot by presenting his incredible talent as a one man show.
