You might be wondering how that could be considered a sequel to Welcome to the Dollhouse. Well, Gerwig's character would be playing Dawn Wiener, the adult version of the character teased with the titular nickname "Wiener Dog" in the 1995 film. The role was originated by young actress Heather Matarazzo, playing the girl who was rather unfortunate looking and disliked quite a bit by her own family and those around her, making it difficult to live through 7th grade. Right now the rest of the cast is still being filled out, but this sounds like a cool project for Solondz, especially with bringing one of the characters from his breakthrough film back in a different capacity.
