Gwyneth Paltrow & Chiwetel Ejiofor Find 'The Secret in Their Eyes'
Since as far back as the fall of 2010, director Billy Ray (Breach, Shattered Glass), who just earned an Oscar nomination for writing Captain Phillips, has been attached to write and direct a remake of Best Foreign Language Oscar winner The Secret in Their Eyes (or El Secreto de Sus Ojos in Spanish). The project was once set up at Warner Bros. with Denzel Washington circling a lead role in 2011, but now Deadline has word that Chiwetel Ejiofor is stepping for that part, and Gwyneth Paltrow will be taking the other lead role in a crime thriller about a former MI-5 agent who returns to Boston, still obsessed with an unsolved murder.
As the former agent teams with an FBI task force, he attempts to find closure for this past case, while also dealing with his unreciprocated love with his superior, something else that still haunts him years later. The film is currently at the Cannes Film Market looking for foreign buyers and production is slated to begin this fall. Ejiofor is coming off 12 Years a Slave, and is certainly a hot commodity right now, and Paltrow has mostly been busy with the Iron Man franchise, but hasn't taken on many prominent lead roles. This could be a bit of a resurgence for the actress if all the pieces come together the right way. Sound good?
