'Inside' Duo Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury to Helm 'Leatherface'
Just a couple months ago, we learned that a Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel was on the way called Leatherface. The story was said to take place before the original 1974 classic horror film, following the teenage years of the chainsaw-wielding killer in the 70s with a script from rising writer Seth M. Sherwood. Now Bloody Disgusting has word that Inside, Livid and Among the Living directing duo Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury have been tapped to direct the prequel finding Leatherface as a teenager in a mental institution with other disturbed young people. So how does this lead to the inception of the killer?
Well, a group of kids break out of the institution and end up getting into trouble in the outside world, though no specifics are mentioned. It's the events that happen outside of the institution that will lead to the creation of Leatherface's identity. Carl Mazzocone (Texas Chainsaw 3D) is producing the film along with Christa Campbell (Stonehearst Asylum) and Lati Grobman (The Iceman) at Lionsgate and Millennium Films. Honestly, this sounds like a terrible idea, much in the same way (as I've pointed out before) Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween turned Michael Myers into just a typical serial killer with a dark past. Anyway, there's no cast or start date in place yet, so we'll see what happens. Thoughts?
