Dwayne Johnson / Shazam

With the beginning of Comic-Con just a couple days away, the influx of news about forthcoming comic book movies (like what titles Marvel has planned for release through 2019) will increase exponentially. And there's no official word on DC Entertainment having a presence at Comic-Con, we're betting the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday will have a couple of surprises, and one of them just might involve Dwayne Johnson. The actor has been teasing involvement in some kind of DC Comics property, and while past stories have linked him to Lobo, it sounds like our answer might have already come from the past. Read on!

In an interview with Total Film, Johnson had this to say about the DC Comics property that he's working on:

"I will say this. There's a character out there that we're going to announce very soon that I'm going to play, and I'll just say this: This character has the power of Superman, he can throw down. Just say the word. That's all I'm going to say."

And comic book fans have probably already guessed that Shazam seems like the most viable option in that capacity. And if that's the case, the leaked timeline of Warner Bros. comic book properties is sounding more and more accurate. The list had Shazam hitting theaters in July 0f 2016, and if that's the case, we wonder if the studio is hoping to include Johnson as Shazam in Justice League somehow. What's interesting about Johnson potentially playing Shazam is that he was once linked to an adaptation of the superhero back in 2007, but he was supposed to have the role of Black Adam. However, plans for that film fell through a couple years later. Here's hoping Johnson shows up at Comic-Con with an announcement. Thoughts?

Seems like a good fit for him.

Now look, I don't want to try and start anything on a bad note here. I highly respect The Rock in his current career as an actor. But isn't Shazam, supposed to be more towards, the other colour. Well The Rock isn't completely just that so am wondering. Which would possibly mean if he is playing Shazam would they have to um change the race of Billy the kid that transforms into Shazam and you can kinda see where am getting at right? Am not like trying to start something, just making some valid points. I mean the whole kid says Shazam thing and turns into this superhero isn't logical, but if Billy and Shazam were different colours wouldn't that be a bit awkward.

It is what it is...truth is because Rock is half black and he is using it to his full advantage .He gets alot of different roles that absolutely would not go to a full black guy of his size. In "Snitch"he had a full white son...and hell he just did Hercules. With his physical presence and noteriety..this might be a good look for DC..I wouldnt mind seeing Henry cavill get the shit beat out of him by a person that actually loks like he can beat the shit out of him

that last sentence was the best part of your comment.
comic books can change characters color anytime it chooses an or make the same character a different color. you started just to see what people would say lol man up. anyways rock would be a perfect shazam billy b wouldnt have to be black hell latino, Hawaiian, black would be one. how would that hurt the character if he was a black guy specially if rock got the role. who you want John cena lol COLOUR its not 1945 sum characters colour dont matter

I said it because it is obviously a legitimate concern towards the character as you have further proven my point by suggesting they could change the colour of Billy which I previously suggested they should since they are suggesting the role towardd The Rock so technically you think am just starting something in your delusional mind when all in all this is a valid concern that not even you ignored at all see what am getting at here this is kinda contradicting isn't it? And obviously color does matter in some cases (not as such as this which could vary) not simply at all, think before you type.

You just keep on making yourself a big idiot as the avatar you use...
          • Stephen Ritchie
I use an avatar? What do you think this is science fiction lol am a real person not some kinda avatar, well if there are avatars out there now I should get into one like that James C movie where this guy was suddenly this blue guy, that would be awesome.

First Shazam will appear in Batman v Superman right? 😛
  • kingdomdude
I am sure he would be Black Adam, not Shazam.

I'm just glad DC calls him "Shazam" now. Captain Marvel, my ass...
  • Chris Groves
I'd prefer him to play a hero instead of a villain, so sure, Shazam...I'm not really familiar with that character, but whatever.
  • Christian Groves
No no no no!!!! Come on, Shazam is a great character, don't ruin it with The Rock!!
    • Richard 33377
You're the only one who feels this way, he's perfect.
  • Xerxexx
    Give him another hero...perhaps Lobo.
  • mooreworthy
I'm fine with Shazam or Lobo.
  • Isildur_of_Numenor
The DC line-up is getting beefier and beefier. Love it!
Yeah it really could be either Black Adam or SHAZAM. Those two would be perfect for The Rock's physicality.

has the power of Superman? that could be anyone on the DC universe
    • Raffaello A-r
No it can't, few JLers have the power of Superman; Martian Manhunter, Shazam and potentially Green Lantern... Of those three, "just say the word" kind of confirms Shazam.
