Jai Courtney in Talks to Play Deadshot in DC Comics' 'Suicide Squad'
After hearing that Jared Leto was up for the role of The Joker and Margot Robbie in talks to play his female sidekick Harley Quinn, yet another member of the Suicide Squad has surfaced. Variety reports A Good Day to Die Hard and future Terminator: Genisys star Jai Courtney is in talks to play Deadshot, a Batman villain who becomes part of the team. Deadshot has a strong tie with Catwoman in the comic books, so that may also mean we'll see another iconic Batman villain in the film, but that's no guarantee. As for Deadshot, he's an assassin with flawless aim, thanks to a mask with target sight and a plethora of weapons. Read on!
The trade also notes that Tom Hardy and Will Smith are still in negotiations for roles in the film, with the latter likely linked to the part of Digger Harkness (aka Captain Boomerang), one of the villains of The Flash. Let's not forget that Warner Bros. also wants Jesse Eisenberg to reprise his role as Lex Luthor, though we're pretty sure he wouldn't be part of the team itself, but maybe the man who rounds them up for a mission that could be a ruse to his dastardly plans. It sems to be a collection of well-known villains from the comics and lesser known characters, which is the best move for a property like this.
As for the casting of Jai Courtney, I wish that the studio was looking at someone better. Courtney is just such a generic action star who hasn't really shown his worth when it comes to delivering memorable performances. He's a cookie cutter action figure, and I really don't understand how he keeps getting big roles. Maybe he'll finally strut his stuff in Terminator: Genisys next summer, but if the first look photos and plot details are any indicator, I'm not sure that movie is going to be good for anybody. Anyway, Suicide Squad will be directed by David Ayer (Fury) and hits theaters on August 5th, 2016.
