Jared Leto Rumored to Be in the Running to Play 'Doctor Strange'?
Now that Marvel has zoned in on Sinister and Deliver Us from Evil director Scott Derrickson to direct their Phase Three title Doctor Strange, they need to find a star to bring the magical superhero to life. Names like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Johnny Depp have been mentioned in the past as possible contenders, but it's not clear if any of those rumors are solid. Now one more name is in the mix with Badass Digest mentioning that Marvel was once keen on Dallas Buyers Club star Jared Leto, fresh off his Oscar win. However, the source isn't quite sure if that's a current train of thought at the comic book studio. Read on!
Leto is a solid actor, but he doesn't seem like the right guy to bring attention to this kind of character who will need to be familiarized with audiences before hitting the big screen. Both Depp and Gordon-Levitt have bigger profiles and followings, so their casting would make a bit more sense. However, with someone like Derrickson on board, you have to wonder if he's pushing for someone like his Sinister star Ethan Hawke to take the lead role. But then again, he too has the issue of not necessarily drawing a younger audience to the project. Anyway, now that a director is in place, expect to have a leading man cast soon. Thoughts?
