Jennifer Lawrence May Invent the Miracle Mop for David O. Russell
Following two collaborations that have warranted nominations as director and actress for Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, director David O. Russell and actress Jennifer Lawrence are looking to team up yet again. Deadline has word that Russell is in early talks to rewrite and direct a Fox 2000 project about Joy Mangano, the single mother inventor of the Miracle Mop. Lawrence would play the woman who became one of the country's most successful entrepreneurs with the self-wringing floor cleaner. And the original script comes from another Oscar nominee, Annie Mumolo, who co-wrote Bridesmaids.
The film would follow Mangano from her days struggling as a single mother working three jobs to support her kids and finally caught a break with the Home Shopping Network sensation known as the Miracle Mop. Unlike American Hustle, this film would be a genuine tale of empowerment and a well-earned rise from rags to riches. The character would certainly be different from her turn in American Hustle as a spoiled, childish trophy wife of sorts. The project is still early in development, and Russell is known for taking on projects and having them fall way, so we'll see what happens.
