Joaquin Phoenix in Consideration to Lead Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'

Everyone is eagerly awaiting the Marvel panel this Saturday at Comic-Con, but it sounds like some news might be leaking a little early. The Wrap reports that Walk the Line and The Master star Joaquin Phoenix has been mentioned over and over again for the role and that the actor is currently in consideration and may already be in discussion for the film. He was once wanted for a role in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, specifically the role of Lex Luthor, so it seems like he's keen to take on a comic book role of some sort, and a character like Doctor Strange seems like a perfect fit for the gifted and sometimes odd actor.
Lending some credence to this report is this tweet pointed out by The Wrap:
One of the comic book stores in CT had Joaquin Phoenix stop by. He was looking for Dr. Strange comics.

Phoenix would be a huge get for Marvel, mostly because of his sterling Academy Award record in recent years with amazing turns in Her, Walk the Line and The Master. Interestingly enough, he's also already worked with Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and even Josh Brolin, who will play Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and future Marvel films. But is there potential that Benedict Cumberbatch could end up with the role? He's here at the convention after all, but also mentioned that a deal didn't get worked out. Of course, this is Marvel, so he could be playing coy. Stay tuned to see what happens.
