Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter Gets a Father in 'Alice in Wonderland 2'

Mark Rylance

Though we don't know much about the Alice in Wonderland sequel developing at Disney, other than it will be called Through the Looking Glass and feature the return of Mia Wasikowska in the title role along with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, we might have a hint of what's to come with the latest casting reveal. Variety has word that stage actor Mark Rylance is currently in talks to play the father of Depp's looney, top hatted character. Of course, without any plot details, we're unsure just how integral the actor will be in the progression of the sequel's story. More below!

Rylance is best known for theater work, but he can be seen in Roland Emmerich's Anonymous (a movie that I completely forgot about until this very moment) and the forthcoming thriller The Gunman with Sean Penn. Through the Looking Glass has The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted director James Bobin at the helm, and since he also directed episodes of "Da Ali G Show," that's why we heard Sacha Baron Cohen was circling a villain role in the Disney sequel, but have yet to get confirmation. We're just hoping this is a little more inspired than Tim Burton's take on the material, which was popular, but bland. Thoughts?

They should get Keith Richards again. That would be hilarious.

That actually would be pretty enjoyable.

If the sequel's good, I hope it won't be as underrated than the first one.

The 1st one sucked. The 2nd one will suck more. They should rename it Madhatter in wonderland since it focuses on jonny deps character.
