McFarland, USA

"You're our anchor Danny, and not just because you're fat." Following Million Dollar Arm this year, Walt Disney Pictures has another traditional inspiring sports drama coming to theaters early next year. McFarland, USA stars Kevin Costner and tells the true story of a group of amateur Hispannic runners in a small, struggling California farm town who try to overcome the odds and build a winning cross country team under the guidance of the town's newcomer Jim White (Costner). This looks just as cheesy as you would expect with messages about class and race not being subtle at all. But maybe it'll be all right? Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Niki Caro's McFarland, USA, originally from Yahoo:

McFarland, USA is directed by Niki Caro (North Country, The Whale Rider) and written by Bettina Gilois (Glory Road). A group of novice runners from an economically challenged town in California's farm-rich Central Valley give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys' exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Walt Disney Pictures sends the film to theaters on February 20th, 2015. Well?

If anyone can pull off a sports-motivation-from-zero-to-hero flick, it's good old Kevin Costner...
Disney made so many of these things after REMEMBER THE TITANS. Looks ok.
