Mark Ruffalo Doesn't Think 'Planet Hulk' is the Way to Go at Marvel
Just earlier this month, word came from The Avengers star Mark Ruffalo himself that Marvel was definitely thinking about making another standalone movie for The Incredible Hulk to smash stuff again. Of course, the comic book studio is certainly being cautious after two films featuring the big guy didn't work out as well as the more recent efforts from Marvel Studios. But with discussions likely happening behind the scenes, fans are wondering what they might get from a film focusing on just Bruce Banner and The Hulk. Rumors in 2013 had pegged a possible Planet Hulk adaptation, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.
First of all, that rumor was squashed in the same month the report first surfaced. Now it's not out of the ordinary for Marvel to deny rumors, even if they happen to be true, but Ruffalo also doesn't seem to think that Planet Hulk will happen. Speaking with MTV, he was asked about that specific storyline and he said:
"Planet Hulk? I don't think that's the way to go yet. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators."
The ties that Planet Hulk had to the Marvel universe as a whole sounded interesting, but they don't fit as well knowing what's coming in the future. Though Ruffalo is right about how the film doesn't have much meat as far as the story goes. Either way, a new standalone Hulk film is so early in development that there's probably no way of knowing what Marvel might have in store. But we'll probably have a better idea of where the character could head after we see what happens in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Expect a huge presence at Comic-Con next month, and we'll keep you posted on all things Marvel. Thoughts?
