Mel Gibson Wants a 'Taken' Revival with 'Blood Father' Action Thriller
With Liam Neeson having some fun reinvigorating his career with the Taken franchise, and action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger staying in the game with The Expendables and this weekend's Sabotage, maybe it's time for another former action star to make a comeback. Mel Gibson hasn't been all that busy with projects lately, mostly because of his tabloid headline-making behavior, but the guy just might get a chance at getting back on the public's good side soon enough. Deadline has word that Gibson is in talks to lead an action thriller called Blood Father from The Town writer Peter Craig.
The film follows an ex-con who reunites with his estranged wayward 16-year old daughter to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her. It seems appropriate that the company willing to get Gibson back in the spotlight is Why Not Productions, with Mesrine director Jean-Francois Richet sitting behind the camera for this one. Honestly, knowing that Gibson still has the goods, especially in the underrated The Beaver, it would be great to see him get back to action again. The guy deserves a second chance, and he's always been a great actor. We hope this one comes together.
