Meryl Streep to Lead Jonathan Demme's Next, Written by Diablo Cody
Well, this certainly sounds like an interesting assembly of talent. The Wrap has word that Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme is taking on his first higher profile project since Rachel Getting Married in 2008 with a new script called Ricky and the Flash, written by none other than Oscar winning Juno writer Diabo Cody. And if that wasn't interesting enough, last year's August: Osage County Academy Award nominee Meryl Streep is attached to star in the film as a woman who abandoned her family when she was younger to find fame and fortune as a rock star. But the story doesn't begin until decades later.
Finished with her rock and roll lifestyle, Streep decides to be a mother again to her estranged children, one of whom is going through a rough divorce. This sounds exactly like the kind of script Cody would write, and we can already hear her quirky dialogue coming out of Streep's mouth. The film is being shopped around right now with multiple studios expressing interest to pick up the package deal. While Cody showed promise with Juno, only Young Adult has come close to the quality we like to see from the writer. Meanwhile, Demme hasn't been busy with feature films in the last five years, so this will be a welcome return, not to mention a reunion with Streep since he directed her in his remake of The Manchurian Candidate. Cool?
