The Light Between Oceans / Michael Fassbender

After working with Ryan Gosling for both Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines, director Derek Cianfrance has rounded up a new leading man for another one of his dramas. THR has word that Michael Fassbender is currently in talks to lead The Light Between Oceans, an adaptation of M.L. Stedman's novel of the same name set up at DreamWorks. The story follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife in Western Australia after World War I when they find a dead body in a rowboat along with a 2-month old baby girl. While the husband wants to report the deceased and the baby, his wife decides it's a gift from God.

The two enjoy their isolated life at the lighthouse, raising the baby Lucy as their own, until they take a trip to the mainland, and see that their choice to keep the baby might have been the key to devastation of someone else's. Production is supposed to take place in Australia with Harry Potter producer David Heyman behind the film by way of his Heyday Films production banner. We're not sure just when the project is going to get off the ground, but the idea of Cianfrance working with Fassbender is thoroughly enticing, so we hope it's not too far down the line before we see it. Interested?
