The Signal

Following yesterday's viral reveal of the teaser poster and new first look photos for the Sundance selected sci-fi film The Signal, the first trailer has finally arrived. Thankfully, this full trailer is a tease in every sense of the word. We get a vague sense of the story, but the mystery is preserved and all of the cool twists and turns are kept under wraps. It has a flares of Chronicle and The Matrix, though Laurence Fishburne is in the interrogation role this time as Brenton Thwaites finds himself confined in some sort of strange base for an unknown reason. Alex loved this film at Sundance, and we can't wait for you to see it. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for William Eubank's The Signal, originally from Apple:

The Signal is directed by William Eubank (Love), who also co-wrote the script with newcomers Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio. Nick (Brenton Thwaites) and Jonah (Beau Knapp) are MIT freshmen and serious hackers. While driving through Nevada with Nick’s girlfriend, Hailey (Olivia Cooke), they follow rival hacker Nomad’s clues to a location 180 miles away. After a terrifying confrontation with Nomad in the desert, the trio regain consciousness in captivity, are forced to confinement and discover they are part of something unbelievable. Focus Features releases the Sundance selected film in limited theaters June 13th.

  • William Eubank is underrated. The directing and cinematography in Love was amazing.

Was just about to comment on how stunning this looks. Haven't come across Eubank before though, is "Love" worth checking out?

  • Some parts reminded me of the classic anime Akira
  • Carlo
Yup, if Akira has to be made into a live action film, f*ck it, give it to this guy.
  • redskulllives

  • Ethan Anderton
    I need to watch Akira
    • BrainSync
Yep, you definitely do my friend... 😉
  • KANEDA!!!…TETSUO!!!!
Very similar to AKIRA indeed, some shots are almost even frame by frame accurate, like the door getting blown off in the hospital. They better give credit where credit is due for their inspiration! I'm looking at you too Chronicle.

Ok is this the Akira movie that's never going to happen? Even the music in the trailer is reminiscent. The signal? Weren't they trying to match harmonics in the end of Akira? Also I could have sworn I saw. A robotic hand. Didn't tetsuo end up with one
    • BrainSync
I had the same impression when I first saw the trailer.

Does anyone know the music that is played in the trailer?
    • D.N.A
I've asked everywhere... no one can answer me :( beautiful piece of music.
      • Aksam
I've spent the whole day trying to find out who composed the music. The only relevant information I found was : Charles M. business and legal executive Drew assistant / music prod. coordinator Payam production services Navid Hejazi...musician: strings Ramin Kousha...synthesizer programing Samuel Murphy...synthesizer programing Amine supervisor Maxwell assistant Blake Straus...additional arrangements / musician (guitar) If you find who comspoed the music, I'd be the happiest man of the day.
        • Joshua Taylor
In case any of you were still wondering, the soundtrack was released yesterday. Search for Nima Fakhrara on iTunes or Amazon.
          • Aksam
Thank you so much Joshua. You just made my day.

Which track is it? I've listened to them all and none sound like it.
          • Aksam
I agree, couldn't find which track it was. Any clue anyone?
          • Aksam
I still wasn't able to find which track it was on the trailer..
  • BrainSync
The whole trailer screams AKIRA!!! In a brand new fashion...
