Naomi Watts Joining All 'Divergent' Sequels, Starting with 'Insurgent'
Following the success of Divergent earlier this year, Lionsgate and Summit were so excited about their audience's response to the film that they decided to torture (or maybe reward?) them by splitting the final book Allegiant into two films, just like the Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Twilight franchises already did. But before that, we have the sequel Insurgent heading to theaters next March. Shailene Woodley and Theo James are still in the leads, and Octavia Spencer has been reported to be taking a new role. Now THR reports Naomi Watts is set to play Evelyn, leader of the Factionless, and she'll be around for a little while.
The deal for Watts also includes her role in the two-part finale. It's nice to see Lionsgate and Summit filling out the supporting cast with these high caliber actors to surround the younger, less star-studded leads. Returning cast members from the first film also include Ansel Elgort (who will be seen alongside Woodley in The Fault in Our Stars this weekend), Miles Teller (Woodley's co-star from The Spectacular Now) and antagonist Kate Winslet. We're not sure just how pivotal Watts' role in Insurgent will be, but if she's around for both parts of the finale, it must be a pretty big role. Stick around for anymore updates.
