Now Disney is Developing Their Own New 'Robin Hood' Adaptation
Disney is already competing with Warner Bros. since the studios both have their own adaptations of The Jungle Book heading to theaters, and now the studio will go head-to-head with Sony Pictures with another classic property. Deadline reports Disney is developing their own new adaptation of the classic hero Robin Hood with a spec script called Nottingham & Hood from first-time writer Brandon Barker. The project is described as a Pirates of the Caribbean style approach to the story (because of course it is) of the Sherwood Forest hero who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. I suppose that could be pretty fun.
At the very least, it sounds different than the Sony Pictures approach, where the studio envisions creating a Marvel style universe for all the Robin Hood characters to exists and likely get their own movies. But that's also part of the overwhelming trend to build franchises before the first film has even hit theaters, and we agree with James Gunn's recent remarks about how that's just careless and silly of studios to try and plan that kind of world when they haven't earned it with a solid film to launch the series. Anyway, we'll see if both Sony and Disney actively pursue their Robin Hood projects. Stay tuned for more.
