Robin Hood

Disney is already competing with Warner Bros. since the studios both have their own adaptations of The Jungle Book heading to theaters, and now the studio will go head-to-head with Sony Pictures with another classic property. Deadline reports Disney is developing their own new adaptation of the classic hero Robin Hood with a spec script called Nottingham & Hood from first-time writer Brandon Barker. The project is described as a Pirates of the Caribbean style approach to the story (because of course it is) of the Sherwood Forest hero who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. I suppose that could be pretty fun.

At the very least, it sounds different than the Sony Pictures approach, where the studio envisions creating a Marvel style universe for all the Robin Hood characters to exists and likely get their own movies. But that's also part of the overwhelming trend to build franchises before the first film has even hit theaters, and we agree with James Gunn's recent remarks about how that's just careless and silly of studios to try and plan that kind of world when they haven't earned it with a solid film to launch the series. Anyway, we'll see if both Sony and Disney actively pursue their Robin Hood projects. Stay tuned for more.

Robin Hood really doesn't fit the PotC set up IMO.

Haha. True. I wonder who else is in the Robin Hood universe? King Arthur? The Three Musketeers? The Time Bandits?

Someone in Hollywood has a giant wheel they spin whenever they need a new movie idea. It has the following written in little pie segments (like the Wheel of Fortune): Robin Hood, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Jungle Book, Something Oz related, Something Biblical, A Christmas Carol.... After he spins: "We're doing a Robin Hood people!"

And after that we can take a break with remaking some of the favourite movies from the 80's and turn them into garbadge with great selling visuals.

Seems like there are more pie segments for some ideas than others lol.

BTW you can't just already assume that building a cinematic universe in advance in fully careless and silly, at least there's a plan.

I always thought Robin Hood never got the attention it deserved. We'll see if it finally does.

Not Robin Hood again! How about some other or lesser known character in history that deserves more attention?

I've said this before, somewhere. You could film a Robin Hood movie, and you could film an Ivanhoe movie, and have them tie-in, considering Robin Hood and King Richard both appear in the Ivanhoe book. That's as far as I would go to create a "universe" for Robin Hood. You want a good original idea for a Robin Hood movie? Have someone film the version that Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe were originally going to do. For those who don't recall, Crowe would have portrayed the "noble" Sheriff who battled the "villainous" Robin Hood. I'd even go as far as to cast Crowe in the role, though that's a pipe dream now.
