Rebel Wilson Has Met with Paul Feig About 'Ghostbusters' Reboot
Now that we know Columbia Pictures is actively developing a reboot of Ghostbusters from director Paul Feig and his The Heat writer Katie Dippold with an eye towards an all-female cast, there's no doubt that pretty much every actress in Hollywood probably wants in on that gig. Therefore, we're not surprised to hear from an interview on "Today" with Rebel Wilson that she has met with her Bridesmaids director about potentially starring in the film. Matt Lauer asked about the prospect and the Pitch Perfect star said, “I have had a meeting. But who knows? They will have to look at the script when it’s finished… I’d do that for free."
Of course, having a meeting doesn't always mean something significant. Considering the fact that the script is still being written, it's more than likely that Feig is just meeting with actresses he's interested in to make the writing process, if characters are intended for certain people, that much easier. But even then, there's no guarantee that any of the stars that may meet with Feig will end up in the film, because they all want to see a script first. Bill Murray himself offered some names for the cast, but it'll be awhile before we find out who will actually star in the film, assuming that it actually gets a greenlight.
As for Wilson's potential casting, I can't say that I'm thrilled. Much like Melissa McCarthy's work following her breakthrough in Bridesmaids, as a comedic actress, Wilson hasn't shown any range, and pretty much plays the same character in every movie. Don't get me wrong, she can be downright hilarious, but I don't think she's all that great of a choice for a Ghostbusters movie. My vote still goes for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey combined with some younger stars like Emma Stone and Mindy Kaling, but as we've established before, there are tons of possible combinations of actresses for this flick. Thoughts?
