Rebel Wilson to Lead the Remake of 80s Comedy 'Private Benjamin'
While New Line's remake of Vacation starring Ed Helms is still up in the air, the studio who has found success with Horrible Bosses (with a sequel coming November 26th) and We're the Millers (with a sequel in development) is reaching back into the 80s for another comedy remake. Over four years ago, the production company was looking to The House Bunny star Anna Faris to lead a remake of Private Benjamin, one of the highest grossing films of 1980, and a comedy that surprisingly earned star Goldie Hawn an Oscar nomination. Now The Wrap reports breakout Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson will star.
For those who aren't familiar, the original film followed a spoiled woman who joins the Army after her husband dies during sex on their wedding night. The remake includes a spoiled character like this, but this time she will also be accompanied by a redneck woman (Wilson) as they both enlist in the Marines to escape their troublesome current situations. The film is still early in development since a director is still needed, and we're not sure where the script is coming from either. Four years ago, mostly unknown writer Amy Talkington was supposed to write the film, but that might not be the case now. Interested?
