Roadside Attractions Picks Up Xavier Dolan's 'Mommy' for US Release
Briefly: I'm happy to report good news for one of my favorite films of the year. Mommy, the latest film from Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan which rocked the Cannes Film Festival earlier this summer, has been picked up for a US release by Roadside Attractions. The film will open in Canada this September from Les Films Séville. IndieWire reports on the acquisition news which comes a few months after the film tied to win a Jury Prize at Cannes this year, not to mention the hearts of many critics (including Awards Daily's Sasha Stone and yours truly). No official release date is set, but we'll be watching this one close for updates.
I highly recommend seeking out the film. We featured the first official French trailer for Xavier Dolan's Mommy here, which stars Anne Dorval, Antoine-Olivier Pilon and Dolan regular Suzanne Clément in a story about a mother trying to raise a troubled teen. From my own glowing Cannes review: "This film blew me away. It took my breath away, made my heart beat faster, made me happy, made me sad, made me excited, and made me love movies even more. It's everything I want out of cinema, delivered in a gorgeous package, with a kick-ass soundtrack." Stay tuned for updates, this is one of the best films of 2014.
