Robert Downey Jr. Defends Your Honor in Two New 'The Judge' Trailers

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, there haven't been many rave reviews of David Dobkin's dramatic effort The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. It sounds like the film decided to forgo subtlety in favor of melodrama that would have fared better two decades ago. Now two new international trailers show off much more than we saw in the first US trailer for the film, and the visual palette alone is already enough to make me feel weird. It just looks and feels so artificial, almost like a soap opera with a budget. Maybe the performances make it better though. Watch!
The Judge is directed by David Dobkin (The Change-Up, Fred Claus, Wedding Crashers) and writte by Bill Dubuque (of upcoming projects like The Accountant and The Headhunter's Calling). Robert Downey Jr. stars as big city lawyer Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town's judge (Oscar winner Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before. Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring, Up in the Air) also stars in the film. Warner Bros will release The Judge starting on October 10th this fall.
