Rose Byrne Taking Comedy to Space in 'The Something' at Universal
Last month, Rose Byrne had plenty of fun with the boys in the frat vs. family comedy Neighbors, showing that she can hold her own alongside Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. But that wasn't her first round with R-rated comedy since she's also had supporting roles in Bridesmaids and Get Him to the Greek. With that trio of film's on her comedy resume, she's easily one of the top actresses who can dance back and forth between comedy and other projects like Insidious, X-Men: First Class and The Place Beyond the Pines. But for now, she may sticking with comedy as Universal is courting Byrne to lead a new comedy called The Something.
In what sounds like a comedic take on Gravity, THR says the film follows astronauts who get lost in space, but that's all we know for now. Byrne would play an approachable beauty, though she hates being approached. The film will reteam her with Seth Rogen and his Point Grey Pictures production banner, though it doesn't sound like they're share the screen this time. Neighbors producers Good Universe are also behind the film that will mark the feature directorial debut of Rodney Rothman, head writer at "The Late Show with David Letterman" and screenwriter of Grudge Match and 22 Jump Street. This is a project we'd love to see someone like Bill Hader end up joining, but we're not sure who else Universal has in mind.
