Lucy

Following an armed and dangerous first look last week, the first trailer for Luc Besson's return to directing action thrillers has arrived. Lucy follows a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Scarlett Johansson plays the title role, and she truly looks like one tough chick. The film is basically Limitless, but with an emphasis on accessing the maximum physical capabilities of a human in addition to the mental (as explained by Morgan Freeman). Besson knows how to do action pretty well, and this looks fun. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Luc Besson's Lucy, originally from Apple:

Lucy is written and directed by Luc Besson (director of The Fifth Element and The Professional, writer of the Taken and Transporter franchises). The film follows a woman (Scarlett Johansson) forced to become a drug mule. But rather than just carrying the drug, it enters her system and turns her into a lethal vixen who can absorb knowledge with ease, move things with her mind, see into the future, and doesn't feel any pain at all. Morgan Freeman also stars in the film Universal Pictures sends to theaters on August 8th. Excited?

Uh oh...the armchair brain experts will be here soon to debunk the 100% brain unlocking thingy. I think this looks awesome. Always have been fascinated with telekinesis so I'm in.

2

Ha! Good call on the debunk comment.

will watch any Besson movie. This also has the original OldBoy. Min-sik Choi's quite a great actor.

4

Doesn't look a very strong performance on Johansson's part, but overall looks fun! I'll see it.

Danimal on Apr 2, 2014

5

No thanks, actresses who champion apartheid ain't sexy at all.

Tony Burtois on Apr 2, 2014

6

True enough, Tony, although I'm not too sure she actually 'champions' apartheid as you state. Still, I'm surprised that some of the angry young lads on this site, like Stephen and others who went ballistic about my Cruise and Scientology revelations with regards to his films, aren't attacking you in the same immature and senseless manner they did me with regard to your pointing out some truths about Ms. Scarlett. Ummmm.....regardless, keep hanging in there with your living in an awakened manner and seeing the truth of things rather than being ignorant and asleep.

Stop replying to yourself.

Yea, I hear you...lol...I was thinking the same thing as it was unfolding...seemed I couldn't help myself. So sorry. I shall take your suggestion under serious consideration! Thank you, Sir!

I'm thirsty! Time to go by some soda stream!

Jimmy Love on Apr 2, 2014

10

I like this reply...irony is a good thing...and come to think of it, I haven't tried this soda stream thing myself...lol...Hey, just because I find her political money maker schemes a bit misguided doesn't mean I won't see her movies or drink her drink. I look forward to seeing the 'Skin' film as I really like the director's work. For me, important to know certain things about certain people. But that's just me. Thanks for the chuckle, Jimmy Love.

11

She is not the company! She is hired eye candy!

Jimmy Love on Apr 3, 2014

12

Yes, you are correct. She is not the company. However, she does represent it and that company has broken international law! To each his own on the political landscape and she has the right to do what she wishes. Actually, the hired eye candy is what caused me to shake my head when I first saw the ad. She's sucking on that straw, obviously as if she's sucking on some guy's you know what...it's so blatant and sophomoric I lost a little respect for the poor little dear. That's just me. I'll still go see Under the Skin as I like the director's work and the film looks intelligent...regardless of Ms. Scarlett's politics or sexual innuendoes, etc. It's all so silly in the end...her and the straw...lol...

Bo on Apr 4, 2014

13

Hey Tony...just came back after my posting below; researched the apartheid thing you laid on Ms. Scarlett just by googling it. You are absolutely correct. She does ads for SodaStream that's made in the 'occupied territories' and one should be aware of that. Thanks for posting your take on the truth. I for one want to know of these things and not remain ignorant in order to watch movies with my head in my rear hoping to not know what's really going on in the world. Thanks again!

Bo on Apr 2, 2014

14

Again, in case people wonder what the heck you're talking about: The SodaStream factory is built in Mishor Adumim Industrial Zone, located in the settlement of Maโ€™aleh Adumim, one of the largest Israeli thefts of Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank. The chunk of land the settlement is built on separated Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Jericho in violation of human rights and international law. Ms. Scarlett is the new face for ads for SodaStream. In other words, she is using her celebrity and movie fame towards her audience to pump a drink that is being made in violation of human rights and international law. Now, enough from me about this. Time to respect others on this site to do what they wish and talk how they watch movies that interest them. Gotta be fair, you know. Still, thanks for reminding me of this truth.

I got a kind of Limitless vibe here...

Armitall on Apr 2, 2014

16

Same here. Limitless meets Ultra Violet or something rather. So what happens when she maxes out? She takes the SAT's and passes it?

Rock n Rollllll on Apr 2, 2014

17

I can't wait! I'm just unsure about the whole chameleon thing with her eyes and hair, but I love the telekinetic aspect of this movie.

Mufasa on Apr 2, 2014

18

Could be good. I'm happy to see Scarlett in every movie these days. Also like all the Asian actors and settings.

DavideCoppola on Apr 2, 2014

Scarlett doesn't like Asians, she likes apartheid..

Tony Burtois on Apr 2, 2014

20

Better super heroine than the Black Widow... hahahaha.

ali3000 on Apr 2, 2014

Scarlett Johannson is everywhere right now, in the past five months, She was in 'Don Jon' 'Her', 'Captain America 2' and 'Under the Skin'.

Lots of jiggle! I now need some jello!

Jimmy Love on Apr 2, 2014

25

Ugh...I'm so sick of this "only use 10% of the brain" nonsense. It's not even close to be being true. Not even 10% true.

specialk13 on Apr 2, 2014

26

You, sir, are enlightened. That 10% premise bugs the Jesus out of me...

Dan Fiedler on Apr 2, 2014

27

I would suggest you look up some MRI data on what areas light up in the brain during cognition . and then realize the reacting areas are SMALL parts of ur brain . Scientists say that because they donlt know WHAT the unused parts of the brain do ....

Dominic on Apr 2, 2014

28

*sigh. This myth has been debunked repeatedly already. True, certain areas are more active than others during said cognition, but the entire brain is fully active throughout the day; each part carrying out a whole host of functions besides active cognition (e.g. respiratory system). Regardless, the movie still looks like fun.

Dan Fiedler on Apr 2, 2014

29

EVERY part , and constantly the WHOLE day ? also my point was even if there is small activity , Scientists have no correlation to what happens in ALL those active areas . Once you eliminate aural and visual procesing some of the hindbrain and forebrain reactions , there are relatively vast areas people know nothing of

Dominic on Apr 2, 2014

30

Hm. Pretty sure I never said "constantly" or "whole day."...let me see...yup!

Dan Fiedler on Apr 2, 2014

31

Dominic you are proof that some of us indeed only use 10% of brains.

dvt on Apr 3, 2014

32

Yeah script writers need to come up with something different because that idea is super repetitive.

SkyNet300 on Apr 3, 2014

33

I know some people will still believe what they want to believe because the myth or conspiracy is sexier than the truth, but sorry, facts are facts. Here's just one link from a reputable source with the truth of the matter: http://goo.gl/QadgZM Here's a short excerpt if you aren't in the reading mood: "Though an alluring idea, the "10 percent myth" is so wrong it is almost laughable, says neurologist Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore"

specialk13 on Apr 3, 2014

34

So , is ScarJo the new official action hero(ine , if u wish ) of Hollywood ? Makes sense in the fact that all the men are pretty old ( maybe not Statham ) for these roles . They need a farm system for action heroes lol. . til then ride the young female hero character ...

Dominic on Apr 2, 2014

35

if so , I'd like to see somebody reprise Dark Angel , Jessica Alba's od series .. her name gets that financed and they might just be able to weave her into one of the comic book movie universes

Dominic on Apr 2, 2014

36

No love for Choi Min-sik? That bad motherfucker.

I gotta say I still feel like Blunt would've been a better casting choice for Black Widow.
