Simon West is Intereseted in a 'Con-Air' Sequel Set in Outer Space
Just a couple weeks ago, we celebrated Con-Air day (find out what that means here), and now director Simon West has revealed that he has interest in a sequel to the 1997 action thriller starring Nicolas Cage. However, his idea for a follow-up sounds absolutely insane, and the kind of insane that just might get people into theaters. Speaking to ScreenDaily, The Expendables 2 director said, "I would do it if it was completely turned on its head. Con Air in space, for example – a studio version where they’re all robots or the convicts are reanimated as super-convicts, or where the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys."
West continued that it would be to be, "Something shocking. If it was clever writing it could work.” I'm not so sure that an idea like that counts as clever writing, but someone out there has to be interested in seeing a sequel like that. Of course, Con-Air came from Touchstone Pictures back in 1997, and they don't seem to be keen on making movies like that anymore. But with all the other films that keep coming back for sequels, remakes and reboots, maybe there's a place form an all-new version of Con-Air. Hell, there might even be a way to crossover The Expendables and Con-Air if the rights could be sorted out. Thoughts?
