'Star Wars: Episode VII' Will Happen 30 Years After 'Return of the Jedi'

March 18, 2014

Star Wars: Episode VII

Briefly: Any official news on the developing Star Wars: Episode VII has been at a bare minimum, with the exception of endless casting rumors. The most recent talk of a new cast member came in the form of 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong'o maybe playing a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but now an official announcement from Disney and Lucasfilm gives us the smallest of details. Production will begin at Pinewood Studios in London this May, and it was revealed Episode VII will take place about 30 years after Return of the Jedi and features "a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces." That's it.

Hasn't it been 30 years since Return of the Jedi anyway?

    dammit no darth maul!!!
I was hoping for more like 150 years. But at least 30 will explain why the old cast is still kicking.

No easy feat for anyone to take on the task for this franchise, regardless of $ or talent but I have faith in JJ Abrams et al, to give it a damn good shot. ,

I really hope the old cast is in it for only a min tops. Ugh Indy 4 paranoia

I'm sure we will get a heavy dose of R2-D2 and C-3PO no matter who else is on screen for however long.

I want to go into a coma, or a cryogenic freeze until this movie comes out. Wake me when it's ready!

At this point I'd rather see a whole bunch of new characters and none of the old ones being dragged through the mud.
