Steven Soderbergh Gets a Chopper to Start Shooting 'Magic Mike XXL'
Back towards the beginning of the summer, we got word that Steven Soderbergh would still be involved with the production of Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the surprise male-stripping hit from 2012. Soderbergh isn't directing this time (Greg Jacobs has that job), but instead will serve as director of photography and editor. And now it sounds like production is beginning, at least for the Second Unit as the filmmaker posted a picture to Twitter over Labor Day weekend showing that he was getting into a helicopter for some standard aerial photography, likely for establishing shots, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Look!
Here's what Steven Soderbergh posted on Twitter over the weekend for Magic Mike XXL:

Now you might be wondering, "If Steven Soderbergh is the director of photography, then why is the name Peter Andrews on the clapboard?" Well, that's actually one of Soderbergh's aliases (he also uses the names Mary Ann Bernard and Sam Lowry every now and then). Soderbergh has used this alias as director of photography for plenty of his projects, from as far back as Traffic to as recent as episodes of the Cinemax series "The Knick." Anyway, stay tuned for more updates as production continues, especially of any potential new and returning cast members joining Channing Tatum for more fun.
