'The Guest' Team Barrett & Wingard to Remake 'I Saw the Devil' Next
With the release of their thriller The Guest just a couple days away, The Wrap reports filmmaking team Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard are nearing a deal to write and direct the developing remake of Kim Jee-Woon's South Korean film I Saw the Devil from 2010. In fact, it seems to be a done deal because Barrett has already started writing the script and Wingard is already preparing to round up a cast. As we reported late last year, Dredd and The Grey producer Adi Shankar is producing the remake, and he's joined by Keith & Jessica Calder from Snoot Entertainment, the company behind The Guest and You're Next.
Just in case you need anymore confirmation, here's Calder addressing the story on Twitter:
@GermainLussier Just saw it. We didn’t know about the story breaking, but it’s all true. We’re all obsessed with the original film.

For those who don't know, the original film is original film followed Oldboy star Choi Min-sik as a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. His latest victim is the beautiful Ju-yeon, pregnant fiancée of elite special agent Soo-hyun (Byung-hun Lee of G.I. Joe). Obsessed with revenge, Soo-hyun decides to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. Wingard and Barrett are the perfect team to tackle this project, and they might even craft a remake just as interesting as the original violent film. It's hard to get exctied about remakes nowadays, but this one may be the exception to the rule. And if you need convincing ake sure you see The Guest this week.
