The Empire Strikes Back

Here's some fun and hype for all you Star Wars fans hungry for something new now that the title for the next chapter in the saga has been revealed. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is almost exactly a year and a month away from release, and more rumblings of a teaser trailer arriving before the end of the year have surfaced. Badass Digest says to expect it sometime in the next four to five weeks (they also have a rumored description if you're interested), so we're anxiously awaiting confirmation of this rumor. In the meantime, a fan has crafted an awesome contemporary trailer for The Empire Strikes Back to check out. Watch it!

Here's Cameron Arrigioni's modern trailer for The Empire Strikes Back (via SlashFilm):

It's a pretty well done trailer, but one of the bigger issues is that it seems to give away a whole lot of the film. From Han Solo and company encountering Darth Vader on Cloud City to the revelation of another potential savior and more, this shows too much from the film. That certainly makes it a lot like trailers we see for movies today, but at the same time, maybe that's only because we're familiar with the movie itself. And for those interested, the music throughout is from Michael Giacchino's score for 2009's Star Trek. Of course, that's bound to be different in the real film since composer John Williams is back to provide the score.

With production now complete and the December 18th, 2015 release date confirmed by Disney, Star Wars mania isn't slowing down at all, and we're evn more anxious for some kind of first look or teaser trailer. We've got just over a year to wait and there's no question at all that plenty more adventures are on the way. We'll be right here to keep you updated on all the Star Wars goods through 2015 and beyond.

probably going to come off as a bit pretentious, but as a person that works in the trailer industry, that blew.

      Is that the "industry" terminology?

Hi Ryan...that is an industry that I would and have always wanted to work in...any chance I could shoot you an email? amilne@hotmail.com

For a second I assumed you were probably being overly critical.... then I watched it... oof. That was painful.

    bwum?

I saw someone post this over the weekend and wasn't impressed either. It does what modern trailers often do wrong - spoils too much of the movie. Of course, it's not a new movie so it's not actually spoiling anything. But as a trailer, it fails.

It's not a George Lucas film, it's an Irvin Kershner film.
  • RAW_D
Yeah, wasn't I wasn't all that impressed either. That music did not belong with the imagery imo, and you pretty much spelled out the ENTIRE movie. It just didn't do it for me. (FULL DISCLAIMER: I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL TROLL, IT'S JUST MY OPINION DAMMIT!)

BTW, that music is originally from the Star Trek reboot trailer. The song is Freedom Fighters by Two Steps from Hell. They pretty much make music specifically for trailers and commercials. Good stuff, check em out!

I wonder if they had a guy that just stood around and polished Vader's helmet (LOL) in between takes?

The score doesn't fit. Or maybe it just reminds me too much of Bat's film.
  • ESB will always be a masterpiece in scifi cinema. I will always cherish this movie. However this trailer is neat but the music doesn't work. It 'cheapens' the images IMO with that overblown zimmer sound. Needs Williams magic. Sorry.

maybe a minute too long, but still cool that someone did it.
