There has been so much buzz and success for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy since the film hit theaters last month. The sci-fi action flick just topped the box office again this past weekend, and is now the highest grossing film (domestically) of the year so far. Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. recently praised the film saying that it might be Marvel's best one yet. And the demand for a cute dancing Groot toy has resulted in the real thing. Now we figured we show off some fun from before the film was made with Karen Gillan shaving her head to play the bald, cybernetically enhanced villain Nebula, daughter of Thanos. Cutting that long, gorgeous red hair clearly wasn't easy, and that's serious dedication on Gillan's part. Watch below!
Some might remember that Gillan surprised everyone by showing up to the Guardians of the Galaxy Comic-Con panel a couple years ago and ripping off a wig that looked like her real hair to show off her new bald look. It's a pretty cool move for the actress since she could have easily just hidden her hair under a bald cap, but she went for the gold instead (and her hair will actually be featured in Star Wars: Episode VII). The question is will she shave her head again when it's time for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to go in front of cameras? Surely Nebula will be back in some capacity, and we'd love to see her character evolve, but maybe Gillan can keep that stunning red hair this time.
Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn (Slither, Super). Brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to join his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand. Marvel released the film on August 1st. Go see it right now!
