Watch: Kristen Stewart Enlists in the Army in Trailer for 'Camp X-Ray'

Continuing to broaden her horizons and skew away from young adult territory, Kristen Stewart stars in the prisoner of war drama Camp X-Ray. The story follows a newly enlisted female soldier who ends up taking shifts at the detainee camp at Guantanamo Bay. While making the rounds, she begins to strike up a meaningful relationship with one of the prisoners, played excellently by Payman Moaadi. Slowly she becomes skeptical of her role in the military and what they're doing at the titular camp. Unfortunately, I found the movie as a whole to be melodramatic and lacking any subtlety in its message when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but perhaps audiences will feel differently this fall. Watch!
Here's the first trailer for Peter Sattler's Camp X-Ray from IFC Films:
Camp X-Ray is written and directed by Peter Sattler, making his feature debut. A young woman (Kristen Stewart) joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small-town. Instead, she ends up as a guard at Guantanamo Bay. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees (Payman Moaadi). As two people on opposite sides of a war, they struggle to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay, but form an unlikely bond changing them both. IFC Films picked up the film from Sundance and releases it on October 17th.
