Kite

The late director David R. Ellis was supposed to reteam with his Snakes on a Plane star for a live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime movie KiteBut since he died just before production was supposed to begin, South African director Ralph Ziman (Gangster’s Paradise: Jerusalema) had to take over the project. It's been a year since then, and now it sounds like the project is gearing up for the big screen release as Bloody Disgusting has gotten ahold of an early trailer for the film introduced by star Samuel L. Jackson, proclaiming his affection for the original work. There seems to be some cool action, but Jackson could just as easily be playing Shaft again in this film and there wouldn't be much of a difference. Watch it!

First trailer for Ralph Ziman's Kite, discovered by Bloody Disgusting (see a 5-minute clip there too):

Kite is directed by Ralph Ziman and based on Yasuomi Umetsu's iconic Japanese anime of the same name. When her cop father is killed, a young woman (India Eisley) tracks the murder with the apparent help of his ex-partner (Samuel L. Jackson), who keeps a secret. The Great Gatsby and Flipped star Callan McAuliffe also stars in the film with Cleo Rinkwest, Russel Savadier, Keci Eatock, Matthew Van Leeve and Jaco Muller. The Weinstein Company is expected to distribute the film in theaters sometime in 2014. Looking good?

I had the "uncut" version of the anime. Apparently, the Japanese director was big on the Hentai thing, because the uncut version is filled with graphic pornography. It's weird to think of this as a mainstream Hollywood project.

You wonder just how "edgy" they'll go in that regard....I'm thinking they really won't at all.

Is not "filled with graphic pornography". It has 2 sex scenes, and nothing more. The sex scenes are not important for the plot.

Dude, they're super graphic and totally unnecessary. Isn't one a dream sequence?

That's my point, I'm with you. They are unnecesarry. Probably we won't see that scenes in the live action, and is ok.

Looks kindo mad, will have to look out the anime. Seems a bit like Leon a little. Here's the anime trailer for anyone that's into watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqOaqi3LgpI

Horrible... I doesn't look like the anime at all... go watch the anime instead, is amazing...

Heard a lot of good things about the anime, but this looks horrendous.

They try way to hard to make it cool movie instead of really making a good one. Samuel seems like he doesn't even want to promote the movie

Low budget, shot in Eastern Europe it appears, has a very film school feel to the photography direction. This makes me sad :(
