Woody Harrelson Replacing Christoph Waltz in Hillcoat's 'Triple Nine'
Though Christoph Waltz has been presumed to be in the mix for John Hillcoat's heist thriller Triple Nine since the project first surfaced last summer, it sounds like another actor will be stepping into his role instead. Deadline has word that Woody Harrelson, fresh off some great buzz and success in HBO's "True Detective," has replaced Waltz as Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen. That makes for a bit of a reunion since his character is the uncle to a cop played by Casey Affleck, who worked with Harrelson on Out of the Furnace last year. Harrelson is just one more addition to a cast that will turn a lot of heads. More below!
The story follows a group of thieves who plan to kill a young LAPD officer to divert the police away from a daring heist they’re perpetrating across town. The title refers to the code used when a police officer needs assistance. Chiwetel Ejiorfor is the leader of the gang but in his team of thieves is Michael B. Jordan as a street-wise cop who ends up partnering with Affleck to set up the ringleader. But of course, everyone's plans go to hell due to double-crossing, greed and revenge.
The rest of the cast includes "Breaking Bad" and Need for Speed star Aaron Paul, Fast & Furious franchise star and future Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, Warm Bodies love interest Teresa Palmer, End of Watch co-lead Michael Pena, and Kate Winslet. Yeah, that's a hell of a cast, and it just might make for an Oscar contender when the time comes. Stay tuned for more updates as this project progresses. Sound good?
