'X-Men: First Class' Writers to Script New 'Power Rangers' Movie
Just over a couple months ago, we reported that Lionsgate was teaming with Saban to create an all-new film franchise featuring the Japanese live-action super team known as the Power Rangers. At the time, all was known was Lionsgate would "re-envision" the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers about a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world. They fight weird alien beings with their array of special weapons and giant vehicles, and now they have a team of writers to give them some new life. More below!
THR reports X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz will script Power Rangers, and they'll have some familiar company. Star Trek and Transformers co-writer Roberto Orci, who will next make his directorial debut on Star Trek 3, will be an executive producer of the film. Orci has a history with Miller & Stentz since they all worked on the Fox sci-fi series "Fringe." We're still not sure just what tone this new Power Rangers will be going for, but we're just glad that Orci isn't writing this one. We don't need Megazord to just be another Optimus Prime with hollow human characters inside it. But now the question is who will end up directing this merchandise machine? Stay tuned for updates.
