Justice League

For anyone holding out for Warner Bros. to get Ben Affleck to direct Justice League now that he's all set to play the studio's new Batman in the gestating sequel to last summer's Man of Steel, we have some potentially disappointing news. The Wall Street Journal officially revealed that Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder will be behind the camera, confirming the rumor that first surfaced just over a year ago, and sticking with the DC Comics universe building that we've been hearing about endlessly. President of production at Warner Bros. Pictures, Greg Silverman, announced the news today saying, "It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League.”

The studio isn't setting a release date yet, but the paper notes that the movie isn't likely to hit theaters until 2018 at the earliest. After all, Batman vs. Superman isn't slated to arrive until May of 2016 now (against Marvel's Captain America 3 if the calendar remains unchanged), so that makes perfect sense. However, there are rumblings that the sequels will be shot back-to-back, and Justice League could arrive as early as 2017 with an announcement at Comic-Con this summer. Maybe that's the real reason Warner Bros. decided to push back the Man of Steel 2 release date to 2016.

Either way, we've all assumed that the next DC Entertainment sequel would be leading to a Justice League movie, it was just a matter of when. After all, Gal Gadot is already slated to appear as Wonder Woman with Batman and Superman in the gestating Man of Steel sequel, and the character Cyborg just entered the mix last week too. Does this mean we'll get cameos from The Flash, Green Lantern or Aquaman as well? That remains to be seen since the announcement is just now official, so we've got plenty of time to figure that out down the road. Happy to have Zack Snyder directing Justice League?

Can't wait!! Hope we hear who will be the other heroes soon and who will play them

The best part about that Green Lantern movie was Ryan Reynolds and he should definitely return in the role. I also think they should get Henry Cavill to play Aquaman also since they share a resemblance. Playing two characters shouldn't be a big deal. I also want Ben Affleck to not only play Batman but The Flash also. Maybe scrap Gadot Wonder Woman and get that chick who plays Lois Lane to play her. Oh and Cyborg should be played by Kevin Costner. Jesse Eisenberg should get the villainous Darkseid role.

Those are some great choices. You should be a casting director, if you're not already one.

I have worked as a casting director on many amazing films, thank you for the compliment. You will find some of many great films I have worked on in your local Walmart discount bin.

Also directed by Snyder I believe.

Wait till you see the version of Man of Steel they didn't want to show you in theaters with 100% full on slow motion in every second! Running time: One Year.
  • Nielsen700
Now the casting of Affleck just seems way more pointless. Unless he's directing the stand-alone Batman flicks.
    • Cocaino Weaver
Pointless comment. Affleck is brilliant and talented and you wish you were making money and were as successful as him. I have faith in Affleck. He was brilliant as Daredevil and despite me thinking his Daredevil role still won't top this one he will do fine.
      • Rock n Rollllll
I concur. If he performs with the same charisma as he did in The Town, Argo, Smokin' Aces, then i will be convinced he should make a great Batman.
        • ComicGeekPioneer
Hey don't knock it till you try it. It was hard to believe for me at first that Affleck will play batman, but I had this same mentality when I first heard C.Bale will play the said role of the Batman begins, and for Tom Hardy to play Bane, but I was proven wrong, and regretted ever doubting Bale and Hardy's, talents.

Not a fan of Snyder, so this is disappointing. Watchmen was okay, Superman was okay, which makes me think Superman 2 and League will both be just okay.

      At best...

I am prepared for the flaming I'm about to get for saying that: I really love the work of Snyder and can't wait too see what he does with Batman and JL. SuckerPunch (directors cut) is very underrated. BUT I hope not to see are any Snyder slow-mo never ending sex scenes. A Wonder Woman JL gang bang would be disturbing... wait or would it?
    • Rock n Rollllll
I'm with you on this. I really enjoyed MOS and i was super-impressed with Watchmen. Looking forward to it.
    • frank
I agree.have all his movies including dawn of the dead.he has an eye for visuals
  • Arkhamfan93
Its not surprising. I was just hoping for a fresh breath of air when it came to the director. Zack Snyder has proven himself to be a blockbuster director, but he is either hit or miss. Lets be honest, Man of Steel gave us big action without any REAL heart and thats been the same with a few more of his films. The closest he came to directing something great was Watchmen and that was more because of the material(graphic novel) already set in front of him. This doesn't excite me for the Justice League movie, I'm just excited that its closer around than we thought
    • ff
The dude has no heart to give. He's a SFX director. That's why this is bad news.
      • Riki
Agreed. My biggest issue with him is that his movies are all gloss and no heart, and superhero movies really need heart.
      • Arkhamfan93
I was hoping that warner brothers would wait to see how Godzilla did critically and commercially and possibly hire Gareth Evans. Who did you want to direct it???

Get mad.....that's all you can say because you don't have reasonable arguments to back up your statement....right now zack synder is enjoying life doing his job and getting paid top $$ at what he loves while you just sit down and do nothing with your life.
          • Th3SmartAlec
Remember how Superman was taught to let a school bus of children drown and let his uncle be killed by a tornado for no reason? And how he snapped a guys neck to 'save lives' when he could have simply just flown away? Remember how Superman spent his whole life absorbing solar energy, only for others to show up and be as strong, if not stronger, than him, despite only being exposed to the Earth's sun for 5 minutes? Remember how Metropolis was smashed to bits, with tons of people dying due to his failure? Remember how Zod's punishment was to be the only one to survive the death of his entire race? Remember how obsessive the Christ-symbolism gets, despite the fact he doesn't really do great? I do agree that he probably loves making music videos which he then markets as movies (Sucker Punch). And you're right currently that I'm doing nothing with my life, but that changes the moment I hit Post. See ya.
        • Sonny Crockett
Not over this, my Friend.....it's only comic-book stuff....

He didn't even direct the second 300. I know you're entitled to your opinion but 300 was awesome. Watchmen kicked ass. Man of Steel was sexual even if it was flawed. Suckerpunch was disappointing but even Dawn of the dead was great. He is going to rock this shit.

Ohhhhhhh great, here come all the Zack Snyder haters pouring in. WAAAAAHHHHH Zack Snyder is this WAAAAAAAHHHHHH Zack Snyder is that.........
    • http://www.roamandthink.com/ Quanah
Yup. It's coming and coming hard (that's what she said). There's worse directors out there and better directors out there. In our lifetime, Superman and Justice League will be reboot 2-3 more times, so let's just enjoy this ride as best we can.
      • Rock n Rollllll
In all fairness, everything has or will get rebooted eventually.

There shouldn't be a "Man of Steel 2" after the 1st one......one of the worst pieces of garbage ever to see a big screen. Let the bleating from the mindless sheep begin.
    • ColtNoir
did you seriously expect them not to continue making movies for their main hero? The first one was bad but you shouldn't be surprised.
      • Captain Omniscient
Of course I'm not surprised, this comic book garbage is all the rage right now and the 1st one made plenty of money......but it was absolutely terrible in pretty much every sense; that's my point. Studios get rewarded for pumping out this mediocre, mindless junk - I'm sick of the cycle of stupid.
        • wonderking2000
Christopher Reeves' movie might be dated and considered cheese to the kids today but he will always be the ideal Superman as Lynda Carter will always be Wonder Woman. Now the current actor they got to play Superman was fine but Zack Snyder Killed MOS. Terrible on so many levels and he will now be rewarded by killing the entire JLA. For something that should be so amazing I am not excited to see them release junk and destroy over 70 years of Superman, Batman ,and Wonder Woman in this way. Snyder is tragic to these films. And obviously being a Wonder Woman fan I'm going to take a guess she will get distorted the worst in this movie being they hate her costume and origin. This is terrible. Sigh...
          • Cal J.
Ever see the shot of Adrianne Palicki in that horrible costume for the failed (thank you, Jesus) television series for NBC? Why do these freaks want to put pants on Wonder Woman? How did Lynda Carter run around in that costume in the 70s but they have to tone it down in the 21st century? I, too, consider Lynda Carter and Christopher Reeves as the gold standard and I hold out little hope for the future of the DC Universe on film.
          • DCNation101
So you would have rather have a family die or superman killing general zod.....Sigh
        • frank
          Captain pessimistic
    • frank
Its better than the superman movie you made.oh you didnt make one.its not garbage just because you dont see someone elses vision you negative crybaby.go to film school and fix it if you dont like it.
  • wonderking2000
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No more Zack Snyder DC movies. The first Man of Steel was awful. They are ruining the entire JLA now. This is sad news.
    • DCNation101
if Man of Steel was awful so was iron man 3.....Man of steel was a true inspirational movie that not the common audience (wonderking200) will not understand
  • ff
    Terrible pick...
  • Cadeyn
the first man of steel was a hot steaming turd, the only good bit was the chris cornell song they used
  • mooreworthy
So...we all hate Zack Snyder, yet, seen all his films?
    • OfficialJab
      I like him.
    • Chris Groves
I'm quite a Zack Snyder fan
      • Movie-Man Smith
Ha, that's great. I hear there's a fan club. It's small but don't worry it's also flat and depressing.
    • Movie-Man Smith
Even "Sucker Punch". Wow . . . .yes indeed.
      • mooreworthy
I will give you that, it was a let down.

i'm excited for "superman v batman" and am very curious as to it's lead-in to JL. i think snyder will do a good job. i'm looking forward to the first JL movie.....
  • superman_kal_el
I've noticed that the people who don't like Man of Steel either don't know the character at all outside of pop culture (the same people who think Aquaman is a joke) or they didn't pay attention to the story AT ALL.
    • Isildur_of_Numenor
I thought the character Clark Kent/Superman was very well developed in MoS, actually I think that's the best part of the movie and that's what matters most when talking about sequels. I'd say they're on the right track so far, Snyder et al.
      • Movie-Man Smith
Well developed. As in developed. I quess I must have missed those scenes the three times I watched the film.
        • Isildur_of_Numenor
Well, the flashbacks when Clark was young, the scenes with the two fathers Jor El and Pa Kent teaching him his role and importance on Earth, the first time he wears the suit. I'd say there's a lot of development, good development too. But to each his own I guess.
    • Movie-Man Smith
There's a Man of Steel outside Pop culture? A real one? Do tell.
      • superman_kal_el
Yeah. In the source material. Moron.
        • Bill Mead
The source material being comic books which are....
          • superman_kal_el
Niche. NOT pop. To comment, you must first know what terms mean. Popular culture is often devoid of substance in favor of marketability. For instance, MANY people know the the name and pop likeness of wonder woman. But, they don't know ANYTHING about the character. Her origins, character traits, stories... these are known by the minority audience that actually enjoys the source material (original medium for her tales). Same goes for many other things. Though they may be branded for mass consumption... knowing the branding does not mean you have a full understanding. Douche
  • SkyNet300
The film score for Man Of Steel was the only good thing about that movie. We all know by now that this sequel will end up being a trainwreck.
  • Movie-Man Smith
I try to be encouraging, but Zack Synder. Please Lord . . . Make it stop. He seem's like a nice fella, but his "Man of Steel" had me depressed. Give us a fun and authentic "Justice League" film with a great director who can be true to that material.
