Awards season is in full swing. The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards are airing this Sunday, January 11th, and the nominations for the Academy Awards are coming in just under two weeks. In the meantime, the nominations for the Producers Guild Awards have been revealed. The PGA award nominees are a solid predecessor to the Oscars with the honor of winning being nearly the equivalent of winning Best Picture. In addition, the PGA awards usually give us a pretty good idea of what films will actually be nominated for Best Picture when the Oscar nominations roll around. So what films made the cut this year?

Here's the list of film nominees for the 2014 PGA Awards (for television nominees, see the press release):

Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award:
American Sniper - Producers: Bradley Cooper, Clint Eastwood, Andrew Lazar, Robert Lorenz, Peter Morgan
Birdman - Producers: Alejandro G. Iñárritu, John Lesher, James W. Skotchdopole
Boyhood - Producers: Richard Linklater, Cathleen Sutherland
Foxcatcher - Producers: Megan Ellison, Jon Kilik, Bennett Miller
Gone Girl - Producers: Ceán Chaffin
The Grand Budapest Hotel - Producers: Wes Anderson & Scott Rudin, Jeremy Dawson, Steven Rales
The Imitation Game - Producers: Nora Grossman, Ido Ostrowsky, Teddy Schwarzman
Nightcrawler - Producers: Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy
The Theory of Everything - Producers: Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner, Lisa Bruce, Anthony McCarten
Whiplash - Producers: Jason Blum, Helen Estabrook, David Lancaster

PGA Producer of the Year Award in Animation:
Big Hero 6 - Producers: Roy Conli
The Book of Life - Producers: Brad Booker, Guillermo del Toro
The Boxtrolls - Producers: David Bleiman Ichioka, Travis Knight
How to Train Your Dragon 2 - Producer: Bonnie Arnold
The LEGO Movie - Producer: Dan Lin

PGA Producer of the Year Award in Documentaries:
The Green Prince - Producers: John Battsek, Simon Chinn, Nadav Schirman
Life Itself - Producers: Garrett Basch, Steve James, Zak Piper
Merchants of Doubt - Producers: Robert Kenner, Melissa Robledo
Particle Fever - Producers: David E. Kaplan, Mark A. Levinson, Andrea Miller, Carla Solomon
Virunga - Producers: Joanna Natasegara, Orlando von Einsiedel

Perhaps the biggest snub in this list is that of Selma not getting nomination, while Clint Eastwood's lackluster, unimpressive American Sniper has been given a nod. Though it's hard to complain too much with films like Whiplash, Boyhood, Nightcrawler and Birdman making the list. Could this be how the Oscar nominations for Best Picture turn out later this month? We'll have to wait and see. The winners of the PGA Awards will be announced Saturday, January 24th, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Stay tuned to see how the other guilds' awards situations play out as well. What do you think?

Surprised Citizenfour isnt in the documentaries. Or is that technically a 2015 release?

Fantastic. PGAs seem to be the best next to WGA for finding the real goods.
