While we're still waiting for Kevin Smith to deliver his holiday horror anthology Anti-Claus, the folks at Legendary Pictures are beginning production on their own Christmas-themed horror comedy called Krampus. The film tells the story of young Max, who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and comically clashes over the holidays. But things get even worse when they unleash the wrath of Krampus, a vicious, ancient entity from European folklore, who begins to wreak havoc, giving monstrous life to holiday icons and creating even more terror for this fractured family. And we have a cast!
Adam Scott ("Parks & Recreation," Hot Tub Time Machine 2), Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, The Way Way Back), Allison Tolman ("Fargo"), David Koechner (Anchorman), Conchata Ferrell ("Two and a Half Men"), Emjay Anthony (Chef), Stefania Owen (The Lovely Bones) and Krista Stadler (Lena Rais) are all starring in the film which is now in production. Michel Dougherty (Trick 'R Treat) is writing and directing from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields and Todd Casey. It should be quite the romp with Weta Workshop and Weta Digital working on the practical and visual creature effects for Krampus and all the other "mischievous underlings" in the film. Universal Pictures will release the film just in time for the Christmas season this year on December 4th. Interested?
