Bad Robot is Developing a Thomas Edison Biopic at Paramount
Even though J.J. Abrams is busy working on the post-production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, that doesn't mean his Bad Robot production banner isn't busy developing other projects. The Wrap reports the company behind the recent installments of Star Trek and Mission: Impossible is developing a movie about Thomas Edison, the inventor responsible for creating items such as the long-lasting lightbulb and the phonograph, not to mention having a hand in creating cinema as the inventor of the motion picture camera, making movies possible. Edison was known as The Wizard of Menlo Park, holding over 1,000 U.S. patents.
However, it sounds like the movie is in early development since there's no writer or director attached. There could be a battle to bring Edison to the big screen eventually since The Weinstein Company is also working on The Current War, about the battle the inventor had with George Westinghouse over alternating and direct current being used to for the American electricity system. It's unclear how much of Edison's life would be covered in the project Bad Robot is developing, but one would imagine his rivalry with Westinghouse would have to be a big part of it. It's early days on this one, so stay tuned for more.
