Bobby Farrelly is Next Going Solo to Direct 'One Night Stan' Comedy
After co-directing the nostalgic, comedic mess that was Dumb & Dumber To, one-half of the Farrelly Brothers is heading out on his own behind the camera. Deadline reports Bobby Farrelly, who has co-directed every film made with his brother Peter Farrelly (despite being uncredited on the original Dumb & Dumber), will go solo for One Night Stan. The project is described as following Stan, a serial commitment-phobe, who falls hard for a beautiful girl named Amy. When he decides to change his ways, he discovers Amy has her own ideas about relationships. But back in 2009, details were a bit more specific.
The script from newcomer Joshua Friedlander was previously going to be directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle). At the time, the story was said to find Stan learning that his fiancee, Julie, has had more sexual partners than he did. So somehow he gets her blessing for one night to play catch-up. Unfortunately, his plans for a "sex buffet" don't come together quite the way he had hoped. That sounds a lot like Hall Pass, which the Farrelly Brothers directed in 2011, but now it's been rewritten by Kevin Barnett (The Heartbreak Kid), Chris Pappas and Miker Bernier, so things might have changed. Here's hoping this offers something better than the Farrelly quality we're used to.
