Clint Eastwood May Direct Hill & DiCaprio in Olypmic Bombing Tale
Over a year ago, news surfaced that The Wolf of Wall Street co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill were going to reteam for The Ballad of Richard Jewell. The story is based on a Vanity Fair article about the security guard who discovered an explosive laden backpack at the 1996 Olympics compound in Atlanta and cleared bystanders, only to be turned on when he was labeled a potential suspect three days after being called a hero. Last fall, The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greenrass was said to be circling the project, but Deadline reports American Sniper helmer Clint Eastwood is circling the project as director now.
However, Eastwood's involvement isn't a done deal. Because Eastwood has a long relationship with Warner Bros., he doesn't want to just leave them high and dry to direct this film at 20th Century Fox. So the two studios are trying to work out a deal to co-produce the film, but each side is a little wary about making it happen. Hill is still lined up to play the title role, while DiCaprio is still interested in playing the lawyer who helped him through this whole mess, but nothing is finalized on the latter's end yet. If this assembly of talent comes together, this would undoubtedly be an Oscar contender. Stay tuned to see if it works out.
