Daniel Bruhl Confirmed as Baron Zemo in 'Captain America: Civil War'

April 27, 2015

Baron Zemo / Daniel Bruhl

We're bound to be getting plenty of Marvel updates this week with the arrival of The Avengers: Age of Ultron hitting theaters beginning at 7pm on Thursday, April 30th. And today, we already have one update about the next film from Marvel Studios slated to go into production in May. Captain America: Civil War will have Iron Man (Tony Stark) and Captain America (Chris Evans) coming to blows, but there will still be a villain in play. We've known for awhile that Daniel Bruhl will play that villain, but there's been some confusion as to who he will actually play. Now we have confirmation from the actor himself. Read on!

Bruhl was speaking to The Independent (via ComingSoon) that he's playing the villain Baron Helmut Zemo. If you're not familiar with that villain, he's the son of a Hydra scientist who fought Captain America during World War II and formed The Masters of Evil. Helmut Zemo became a mutated man after falling into a boiling vat of his father's chemical Adhesive X. After this, he teamed up with Arnim Zola and Batroc, who both appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We're not sure how he's going to come into play during Civil War, but Bruhl should make for a great Marvel villain.

Keep in mind that Helmut Zemo won't be the only villain that causes trouble in Captain America: Civil War, because Frank Grillo has been confirmed to come back as Crossbones as well. He's part of a crowded cast that includes a whole slew of heroes, making this more like The Avengers 2.5 than just a Captain America sequel. Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie will be back as Black Widow, Hawkeye and Falcon, and Elizabeth Olsen has just been confirmed to return as Scarlet Witch as well. And there's also a new hero entering the fray with Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and whoever Marvel ends up casting as the new Spider-Man (check out the shortlist of choices). Stay tuned for more.

I like it.

I hope Ant-Man and maybe Daredevil find there ways into Civil War 🙂 THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!!

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

I agree about Ant Man and Daredevil. If not here, then at least in Avengers 3. The dude who plays Matt Murdock definitely deserves a shot at the big screen. He's really good in DD, but it would be great to see Murdoch and Foggy defending superheroes in Cap 3

Charlie Cox is really perfect for the role as Daredevil 🙂 HE MUST COME UP IN ONE OF THE NEXT MOVIES! Let's hope and see...less than one year of waiting!

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

I really hope this movie is good. The cast is great, and the plot looks intriguing....but there are so many characters at this point and seemingly two, maybe three, major plots already...I just hope it's done right and not like Spider Man 3 or Amazing Spider Man 2....

TheOct8pus on Apr 27, 2015

Marvel Studios know how to handle much characters as you can see in Age of Ultron 🙂 And the difference between Spider Man 3 and this one is...that we already know all characters but for Black Panther and Zemo. So the others don't need too much screen time. And they can focus on new characters.

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

But hose two were good... 🙁

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 27, 2015

Yeah! I like it too 🙂

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

Spidey 3 had its moments in my opinion, but it was all over the place. Too many villains, too many storylines and not all of them good.

TheOct8pus on Apr 27, 2015

I enjoyed it more than Spidey 2, that one focused too much on character relationships which made it quite tiresome in my op.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 27, 2015

Wild guess: Tony doesn't know who Zemo is, so him and Zemo will form an alliance against Captain America for some reason, and then Zemo ultimately betrays Tony, leaving him to have to fight with Captain America against Zemo.

Tuomas Lassila on Apr 27, 2015

That would be very cool 🙂

Am I the only one who expects a review of age of Ultron? It opend a week ago and still nothing on my favorite movie site! Am I missing something?

ari smulders on Apr 27, 2015

The official Release Date in the US is the 1st don't expact a review until that date. By i live in germany and i have seen it last week...the movie is very good!!!

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

Yes I know, but still strange there isn't a review. Other American sites have already posted there review. I am from the Netherlands, so next week I will see it...

ari smulders on Apr 27, 2015

Have fun!!! This movie is great!!! 🙂 Maybe no one from firstshowing got a ticket for the international premiere 😀

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

Or no money to fly overseas... Thanks! CYA!

ari smulders on Apr 27, 2015

You said you live in Germany and saw the movie. I read ScreenRant there's like 200 cities that aren't showing the movie due to some "beef" with Marvel/Disney. While it looks all serious on paper and in the article, is it really that big of deal in Germany or are people able to see it easily anyways?

JBroti on Apr 27, 2015

In some areas of germany it is hard to see it in cinemas. But all big Cinema Groups show it. Only the small ones boycott it. The people here are so crazy. It's only advance in price about 50 cents. No reason to freak out like Disney is killing us 😀 But its always the same old story...people need something to discompose.

Dubmaster2010 on May 7, 2015

And i's not 200 cities...only 200 Cinemas...:-)

Dubmaster2010 on May 7, 2015

Who was the guy in the Cap2 mid-credits btw? He had Loki's weapon and the 'twins'.

OfficialJab on Apr 27, 2015

It's one of the Heads of Hydra...Baron Strucker. You will meet him again in Age of Ultron 😉

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

Then I'll meet him tonight when I see it at a prescreening. Thanks!

OfficialJab on Apr 27, 2015

Have fun! This movie is great!!! 🙂 I've seen it a week ago.

Dubmaster2010 on Apr 27, 2015

It sure was!

OfficialJab on Apr 27, 2015

Ah yes.............Frederich Zoller.

Rock n Rollllll on Apr 27, 2015

People have complained about all the MCU villains being one dimensional and lackluster.....this is a villain I have high hopes for! Love this villain and since he's making more than one film appearance, I really hope he gets executed well. If we can't have Red Skull...I'm glad we're getting Zimo!

JBroti on Apr 27, 2015

That is some good news. I say. I wonder how much "face time" he will get.

DAVIDPD on Apr 27, 2015

I haven't read any of the Marvel comics. What is his abilities? Is he just really smart? What does Adhesive X do? Sounds sticky. lol

timnimbus on Apr 28, 2015

**** SPOILER ALERT **** Not The Avenger 2.5 but The New Avengers 😉
