DiCaprio & De Niro Compete to Lead Martin Scorsese's Casino Ads

January 13, 2015

Scorsese / De Niro

You may not realize it, but despite working with director Martin Scorsese several times each, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio have never starred in the same project with the Oscar winner at the helm (though they did both appear together in Marvin's Room back in 1996). But that ends today with a set of commercials that Scorsese has directed for City of Dreams Manila, a new casino in Manila Bay, Philippines. The casino decided to go all out and spend a rumored $70 million on some kind of short film project with Scorsese, De Niro and DiCaprio, and now we get to see at least the beginning of the results. Watch below!

Here's the City of Dreams Manila ads as directed by Martin Scorsese (found via The Film Stage):

All videos have been removed at the demand of Crown Films, LLC, the copyright owner of the short film entitled “The Audition”.

As you can see, the shorts feature Scorsese pitting De Niro and DiCaprio against each other to land a role in the ads. Despite being commercials, these are fun little shorts that feel just like Casino in spirit. Plus, it's pretty great to see DiCaprio and De Niro having fun like this, and it just makes us want them to make a real feature film with Martin Scorsese as soon as possible. It looks like the above videos are just the beginning of this expensive series of ads, so as soon as more are available, we'll be sure to post them right away. Cool?

I almost want to bash all three of them for selling out and doing this...but I can't, it's just soooo damn good!!!
I need these two to star in a Scorsese feature film before I die. Really. I do.
