Dwayne Johnson Teases Black Adam Fight with Superman & Batman
Last fall, Dwayne Johnson officially made his choice to play Black Adam in the DC Comics adaptation of Shazam. We've got plenty of time before that film gets off the ground since it doesn't arrive until April 5th, 2019, but that doesn't mean Johnson isn't getting questions about the project at every turn. Well, Johnson spoke to Games Radar (via SlashFilm) about his forthcoming role in the the DC Comics universe, and despite earlier indications that Shazam might not tie into the world of Justice League, Johnson says their film will indeed be part of that universe. But he also teases something else pretty big.
Here's what Johnson thinks about his future as Black Adam:
"I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero. It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilised them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology."
And he also gets a little head of the curve by teasing some big things for the character:
"It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humor."
That seems like more of just Johnson being hopeful that he'll end up on-screen with Superman and Batman at some point. But the takeaway is that Johnson is secure in confirming that he will be part of the DC Comics universe, and that's good to hear. As for whether or not we'll actually see Black Adam fighting Superman or Batman, we've got years before we can even start legitimately thinking about that. Again, Shazam doesn't even arrive until 2019, barring and changes in scheduling that consistently arise with comic book movies, so let's focus on the arrival of that hero on the big screen first. Thoughts?
