Felicity Jones Now in Talks for Major Role in First 'Star Wars' Spin-Off
A couple weeks ago, a small collection of actresses were reported to be testing for a led role in the developing standalone Star Wars spin-off that's already slated for release on December 16th, 2016, one year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives. Now THR reports that Oscar nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) is officially in talks for the role, though obviously specifics on her character are kept under tight wraps. All we know is she beat out Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara and Kate Mara for the role after they were all reading and testing for the role in LA.
The hunt is also on for a lead actor in the film, and the trade mentions that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are on a shortlist of potential candidates, but they aren't the only ones in the running. Again, there are no official details available on the spin-off that will be directed by Gareth Edwards and is now getting a rewrite from Chris Weitz, but we've heard rumors that it will focus on the heist to get the plans to the first Death Star, an event that would have happened before the original Star Wars began. This is a huge role for Jones, and we're greatly anticipating what Disney does with these standalone films.
