Gina Carano & Colossus Joining Ryan Reynolds in Fox's 'Deadpool'

Gina Carano

Just after Ryan Reynolds teased a prototype of the mask he'll don for Deadpool this week, the cast of 20th Century Fox's anticipated comic book adaptation is adding another cast member. THR reports MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano will take a role in the film as a character called Angel Dust. That name should sound familiar to comic book fans as she was part of an underground mutant group known as the Morlocks, but we'll see if they actually end up using that storyline detail in the film or not. Considering how badass Carano was in Haywire and Fast & Furious 6, she should make for some solid action scenes. More below!

In addition, the trade has also learned that the metallic mutant Colossus will appear in the movie. However, it's not clear if he'll be played by Daniel Cudmore, who played the character in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past most recently. My bet is that if it's a prominent role, they'll get a bigger name actor, and maybe they'll even make him Russian this time, but we can't be sure. Anyway, Carano joins a cast that also includes T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein, though we don't know what roles they'll be playing. Stay tuned as more details on Deadpool are sure to surface soon.

Woah...bringing in Colossus is a bit of crazy news. That will definitely tie this in closer with the Xmen. That said, do we yet know if the origin story in Origins:Wolverine will be jettisoned for this movie? If they aren't, then I guess we already have that tie in. Either way, I'm not going to complain about seeing some more Colossus action...loved his scenes in Days of Future Past.

I think we're all are trying to forget Deadpool was even in Origins: Wolverine.

I think we're all trying to forget that Origins: Wolverine ever happened at all.
        • Christopher Roberts
Days of Future Past pretty much retconned all of X-men Origins: Wolverine. I assume that FOX is just going to pretend it didn't happen from here on in.

Ah yes...good point. Let's hope they stick to that new continuity. I just rewatched that final sequence from XO:W, and now I wished I hadn't haha.

what wrong with the final scene ? or .. WHICH Final scene did you see ? for some versions the final scene is the bar in Japan ( which , if they hadn't screwed the continuity up., could have tied into THE Wolverine , MUCH better . Coulda kept Shingen as main villian , for one) ... If you mean the DP battle , well look the Hero ain't dyin' , Alwight ??? so they threw Victor in to keep him alive .... most DP fans are just mad that RR couldn't talk trash , 'cause he couldn't talk ... otherwise he was kickin' ass ...
          • Gohikeone
I was referring to the DP battle on the cooling tower. The internal blades ala Wolverine style and the blue laser beams of destruction proceeding from DP's eyes were what I was reacting to ha ha. Weird those laser beam eyes can destroy concrete at like it's melted butter, but have little to no effect when hitting a person (even with a healing factor).

yeah OK people hate that they made him a horrible mutant instead of a wisecracking guy with bug eyes in Lycra ... what can I say ; Lee would give away a No-Prize to whoever could actually come up with explanations for "inconsistencies" ;?)) like this ... maybe they are only force beams , which batter not burn , and they "battered" levels of the brick out , instead of 'cutting " it ..... tho I guess they wouldn't turn Logan's claws red when he was blocking it ??? not that CB's were all perfectly logical either ....

I hear you Dominic. I guess in the end, we should be happy that at least we are getting some comic book movie adaptations, even if they each have some less than desirable scenes, right? We seem to have collectively forgotten (amidst all our nitpicking, myself included) that it wasn't that awful long ago when we were wishing for any comic adaptations other than the biggies eg: Superman or Batman.

Wade Wilson was perfect in Origins, but 'The Deadpool' was horrible and best left forgotten, maybe they can retcon it and claim that Weapon XI was a clone of Wade Wilson.

So true...I thought RR played the part well. His test reel for the new Deadpool film is great...looking forward to the full film.

If they stick to the leaked script, it will be perfect. The scenes with Colossus are hilarious!
    • Rock n Rollllll
I agree; however I do want to see a new Colossus, someone thats bigger, has a Russian acccent, has more than two lines and his steeled-body to have a lines going horizontal across his body cause otherwise he just looks like the T1000 from Terminator 2.

        No doubt!

Hoping she was going to be Domino. What's up with that?
  • Tuomas Lassila
I hope Colossus has bigger role in this.
  • Dominic
Gina as Wonder Woman !! she can act , fight , AND she has the body for it .. very few "enhancements" needed
    • IamSlave
I'd go easy on the "act" part.
      • Dominic
by inference , I guess that means you agree with everything else ... I saw the movie before last , and the last half of her latest one . She can emote well enough .. Maybe only a FEW facial expressions , but she only plays kick-ass women ( and does that pretty well ) , so what more would you expect .? Let's give her a meatier role ; see where she takes it
TJ Miller is going to be great in this film. His style of humor is perfect for DEADPOOL.
