Hear Comedian Patton Oswalt's Idea for Two 'Unbreakable' Sequels

Ever since Unbreakable was released 15 years ago, writer and director M. Night Shyamalan has been teasing a sequel. Every few years he'll mention that he still wants to make it happen, with the last update coming in 2013 when he said "it's getting closer." But maybe he should listen to a pitch from a somewhat unexpected place: comedian Patton Oswalt. The "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." guest star recently appeared on Screen Junkies to talk about his dream of seeing Unbreakable 2 happen, and he even has a basic idea for the story. But that's not all, because he has a plan to complete a trilogy with an Unbreakable 3 as well.
Don't forget about Patton Oswalt's awesome Star Wars and Marvel crossover idea right here.
If you don't have time to watch the whole video, we'll simplify it for you. Unbreakable 2 would be about David Dunn (Bruce Willis) using the research left behind from Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), who is imprisoned in an asylum, to track down other people who might be "unbreakable" like him. Dunn would be forming his own team of people with superhuman abilities that may have gone unnoticed. The end of this second chapter would see his family leaving him, his son getting hurt or one of the team members getting killed, which calls his entire plan and everything he believes into question.
Then Unbreakable 3 would see the release of Mr. Glass (or maybe the escape), who now has the support of other crazy people from the asylum as a team of villains. The main story for the third film would see Mr. Glass trying to steal Dunn's blood in order to cure his ailment and thereby become unbreakable too. The idea certainly sounds interesting, but it also feels a little formulaic, especially with the "super blood" storyline that we've seen play out too often recently. Plus, it also seems to stray too far from the grounded nature of the first film, but that's always going to be a fine line to dance if the sequel ever gets made. Anyway, we're still hoping to see an Unbreakable 2 in any form sometime down the road. Thoughts?
