Hugh Jackman & Patrick Stewart Teaming Up for 'Wolverine 3'?

While 2016 is sleted to be a big year for X-Men with the arrival of Deadpool, Gambit and X-Men: Apocalypse, let's not forget that the next installment of the Wolverine spin-off franchise (which we've been calling The Wolverine 2, though it's technically the third film for the character) is coming on March 3rd, 2017. Last we heard, Hugh Jackman was still figuring out how his deal for X-Men: Apocalypse and a new Wolverine movie would work out, but it sounds like plans are coming together. Patrick Stewart was recently speaking with Oregon Live (via ComingSoon) and he revealed that Professor X will be involved.
Here's what Stewart had to say about his future in the X-Men series:
“What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of ‘X-Men’ from the four movies that I’ve already done.”
That sounds like it would be pretty cool. After all, whenever Wolverine has gotten his own film, he hasn't teamed up with any established characters from the X-Men universe, though they have introduced plenty of other new characters for him to work with or battle. But this would be the first time he would actually work with a well-known character from the original X-Men trilogy in his own franchise. As for what these two would be doing on their own adventure, that remains to be seen. Another question is I'm whether the film would be set after The Wolverine, but before X-Men: Days of Future Past, or if it would be in the future timeline affected by the time travel actions of Days of Future Past.
In addition, Stewart also has changed his tune when it comes to knowledge about the presence of the older versions of Professor X and Magneto (Ian McKellen) in X-Men: Apocalypse. Though it sounds like Stewart's older version of Professor X isn't involved in the sequel, Stewart now says, "Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it.” That means there must be some kind of flash forward or something involved in the film in order for McKellen to appear. The X-Men universe is certainly getting much more complicated since Days of Future Past, and we're anxious to see how it continues to develop.
