Ben Affleck Batman

We can't exactly say "it's official" until Warner Bros sends out the press release, but this is about as close as we'll get until then. Deadline is reporting that the rumor first reported by Latino Review a few weeks ago is actually true. Ben Affleck will be co-writing and directing the solo spin-off Batman movie following his appearance in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice coming out next year. He'll be teaming up with DC's Geoff Johns, writer of Batman: Earth One, to write the script for this before he directs. Well I'll be damned, this doesn't so bad at all. "They are likely to turn in a script before the end of the summer."

Word is that apparently Affleck and Johns are "in sync" now, working on the script in order for Affleck to be able to move on to directing Live By Night at the end of the year. From Deadline: "The Batman movie would shoot after he finishes Live By Night, and the plot would reflect the Batman character that emerges after Batman V Superman and Justice League." Sounds about right. No other details were released, but other reports previously have indicated that the title will actually be The Batman, and they're aiming for release in 2018 (following Justice League in 2017). Beyond that, we have no idea where the character is at or how he's involved in the new universe, since we have yet to see Batman v Superman. In time we'll know more.

For now, I'll say that I'm actually confident in this choice. I'm a fan of Affleck as a director more than as an actor (my favorite film he's made is Gone Baby Gone). While it does seem a little too soon after Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, I guess I'm not as upset considering their plan to re-introduce Batman through the Justice League seems like a good idea. His origin story was already told perfectly in Batman Begins, no need to retread that territory again. And while I would say I'm concerned of Batman overload, this solo movie won't be out until 2018 and the glimpses of him in BvS so far relieve my worries. What do you think?

    COURT OF OWLS. Please...PLEASE.

Although I love that arc, I bet they are trying on a new storyline alltogether. And having Johns will give some interesting character development.
  • capitandelespacio
Well, this is better than those frauds who wrote The Green Lantern movie in 2011. Oh, well, same frauds who created Arrow and The Flash tv shows...

Don't hate on the Arrow and Flash T.V. shows my man. The last season of Arrow wasn't as good as the previous two but it was good enough. The Flash had a pretty god damn stellar first season in my opinion. I can tell you that I am in no way excited to see Ezra Miller's emo ass play Barry Allen.

I will be simply shocked to hear anything negative about this. This guy can make a movie. We haven't seen yet but so far he looks like an awesome batman. This is great.
  • bumboclot
It will not be too soon after the Nolan trilogy because they will already have two Justice League movies with Batman by then. The audience will be so used to the new Batman it would be awkward to NOT do a Batman movie. By that time we'll be on our 8th or 9th Spiderman reboot!

Affleck isn't such a bad choice and after Nolan it will be always a disappointment.... Let him do it, he has a great list of directing good movies...
    • You didn't like Nolan's Gotham trilogy? The Dark Knight especially?
      • ColtNoir
he's saying he's going to be disappointed no matter who it is, because it's not Nolan's Batman, But Affleck is still ok with him.
        • ahhhh....yes I see
          • ari smulders
the darkknight is my favorite movie ever! I did see it more than any other movie!
          • Cheers mate!

          thanks for translating....
  • Brian Sleider
    Pretty exciting.
  • Wes
Hmm so I guess he survives in Batman v Superman then
    • Blake
They would never kill Batman in the movies!
  • Solid. Very solid.

Sold!! Having seen and liked pretty much all of the movies he has directed, I am more then fine with this. I know wikipedia isn't the greatest source but it has him directing a Batman movie with 2018?
  • TK
Also I have been hearing that Wesley Snipes has met with Marvel regarding returning as Blade. Is this true? Anyone?

Affleck is a decent actor and a fantastic director. This could be a quality film. However, do we really need/want another Batman movie so soon?
    • ColtNoir
      yes. any other questions?
      • TheOct8pus
Why do you want another standalone Batman movie in the next couple years?
        • ColtNoir
I mostly didn't care when it would happen again, unless they were going to get Affleck to direct it. I'm just glad that they're actually going to let that happen. I think he's a fantastic director.
          • TheOct8pus
I agree about his directing....I'm sure he'll put out a good movie no matter what.

The earliest this is probably coming should be 2018. At that point it is 6 years since TDK Rises, and it'll be dealing with a Batman in a post Justice League world...which is a very unique and exciting wrinkle to add to the film. Plus, a movie where we could see Affleck's Batman going up against Leto's Joker. The idea of a Batman movie being loaded with so much Oscar-level talent is extremely interesting.
      • TheOct8pus
I hear ya. I guess it all hinges on the Batman character from Bats vs. Supes....if the public cares enough about Batfleck, they will want to see more. I like the notion of the grizzled old Batman.
  • ColtNoir
this is the most perfect thing DC/WB could have done. this movie should be fantastic!
  • I'm Batman
Still don't love Ben Affleck as Batman (I sincerely hope I'm proven way wrong there), but I am definitely interested as to what a movie written/directed by him would look like. Definitely intrigued.

This is just an absolute home-run. My love of what Marvel Studios does has no shortage and is no secret. But I'm VERY excited about what could come of this 'DC Saga' just because of things like this. Ben Affleck not only starring as Batman in Batman v Superman, but then also appearing in Justice League films, and now co-writing and directing a Batman film of his own. There is a level of overlap and 'creative cohesion' going on there that I enjoy. Just as Snyder is going to direct 4 films, and be a producer or executive producer on several others. Hans Zimmer seems like he'll score multiple films in this series as well. With Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige as the producer of everything is the biggest cohesive force. The Directors, Writers, Composers etc switch out much more often...although there are obviously occurrences where they helm more than one film...there doesn't seem to be quite as much overlap as there is intended with DC.

No no ....just NO! Please sell DC to Disney, let Marvel Studios take it over. We have Sonic games on Nintendo now so don't tell me it's not possible. These guys suck. Not interested in a Bat-Fleck at all. He's a great director no doubt but not this, please!

Go home Ben Affleck, you're too old to play Batman. No cares about your take on Batman.
  • Bo
Interesting, Alex, to see so many people think Affleck is the cat's meow. I shall refrain from making any observation or comment on that fact, as to each his own and all that. But for me? Ugh! Anything Affleck, anything....double, double ugh!!! Oh, and by the way...same thing for anything Batman!!! Jeez! Batman!! The Lord have mercy!
    • ErrorSapiens
      Why comment.
      • Bo
This is so ridiculous it's not worth answering. I certainly never feel the need to explain myself to anyone. Ever. However, why do you? Comment. And why did you this specific time? Answer your own question, man. That would be a little more honest. This question reveals that you really don't know why you made the comment...or are being less than honest as to what you really mean to say. Don't be a coward. Say what you mean. We all have the right to comment. Do we not? No need to answer that as it's a rhetorical question. Look that up if the meaning eludes you. Have a good day. I assume you think Affleck is the cat's meow?....lol...
        • ErrorSapiens
First you oxymoron yourself, then you contradict yourself within a veil of master supression tactics, and you expect me to dignify that? Your forum antics drew some attention and critical eyes, and with good reason. Class dismissed.
          • Bo
I'm done here, man. You don't make any sense and still won't state your problems in an honest fashion. This has degenerated into a grade-school mentality I find impossible to indulge myself in. Anything further from you I shall refrain from even reading and hit that most fabulous delete button. Peace be with you.
          • ErrorSapiens
            thumbs up!

The return of the black knight (parts 1 and 2) are great movies. The "old" nothing to lose batman is one of the best takes on batman I`ve ever seen, and the Batman vs superman showdown in part 2 has some great ideas. Id actually say Affleck is a bit too young for the part, but the mighty chin is close to the cartoon.. although Bruce Campbells chin would do nicer 😉 . Lex Lutors play in this contra the black knight returns set up for the S vs B conflict is yet to be revealed, but I have my doubts. Assault on arkham asylum (suicide squad) and the black knights return will be the fall or stand awkwardly, but okey for the DC universe.
